| Gear maniac | Apogee Ensemble vs. Metric Halo 2882? sound quality... anyone ever used both units? could you compare the ADA quality? I was moving towards the Metric, but am intrigued by the Ensemble, considering its feature to price ratio. the threads about buggy software irk me a little...but not enough to scare me off. |

| I went from using a (borrowed) 2882 to a (bought) Ensemble. Both sound very good indeed. I never used the 2882 on difficult sources (ie quiet complex mic'd up sounds - like the ol' key jangle test) but I have done this with the ensemble and its most impressive. I found the sound coming out of both units remarkably good. I feel if there is anything to choose between the two units regarding sound quality you'd have to do a very careful, direct, blind a/b test - and it wouldn't be an easy one! Both a certainly capable of producing exquisite recordings and mixes. For me the ensemble wins when used with a Mac/Logic by definition. It is such a joy to use in Logic. The front panel control of i/o gain and output volume is equally smile inducing. I love it. I much prefer the Apogee control software to the 2882's for routing ins and outs etc and with regards to the ensemble's "beta" status, the latest drivers make it pretty much sorted too. Apogee's support is far better (at least for those outside the US) in my experience. I think my opinion is clear! |
