Yeah... I've been totally addicted since July. I've couple of posts under my belt but the post count doesn't relate in no way how I've spent most of my free time reading this stuff. The reason I haven't posted as much is basically what I'd have to say, there's so much to learn first.. But I can tell you, I've really learned a lot and my mixes have benefited so much it's insane. I love GS!!

And I hope in years time I'll be posting stuff like "got a Germanium coming, just ordered this, just ordered that, etc". I'm a gearslut of the worst kind..

Lurker for several years here. I'm a high end home studio guy who went out and bought a shitload of gear. I'm finally making some great music but definately not an authority enough to be of big help here.

I'm still laughing at the Pierrick photos though. Gearslutz for me is my martini when I come home from work.

Mostly a lurker ,,,

I've done a lot of lurking around here and digested a lot of info which I'm grateful for .
I posted only a very few times .

I am an old school sort of " primitive musician " ,.. a singer / songwriter / guitarist and interpreter of the songs of others .

When I was young I didn't care about gear at all and I recorded in places like the old A&M Studio in LA and RCA Studio B in Nashville, etc.

Somehow , some years ago I became obsessed with gear .

And you guys have made it worse .

My name is William.
I teach and play music for a living and have spent enough time on the studio side of the control room window to know that sound engineers are just like this forum; sometimes good, sometimes completely off track and occasionally excellent. Gearslutz is allways worth checking out.

I´m probably one of the biggest lurkers out there, but it´s really hard to post, since i spend all time reading.

I want to take the chance to be thankful, you cant imagine how much I´ve learned
here.
I will give my modest contribute more often.

So i will start to talk about myself :

my name is Pedro Moreira, 28 years old, musician since 14, I live in Portugal, beautifull small country, lots of bands but almost impossible to make a living or having a carrer in the music biz. but i am crazy and since very young I have dedicated all my time to learn music, as musician i am mainly a drummer but i extended my education to other instruments like, piano, bass and guitar. I studied Architecture for 7 years and gave up on the last year to join the sound engineering school in Lisbon. I finished the degree last year. Now my main occupation is architecture, and all the money and spare time goes to the my studio and to my education on the art of recording.
And the money is a big problem, here in Portugal the gear costs the same as in the UK or US, but the minimum wage is about 370 Eur.
So here we must by completely nuts to be gearsluts, So we have to work a lot and spend money wisely to achieve great results without top gear.

Also we dont have big or top studios to get in. But as i said there´s many bands and they want to record so...
I am building the studio myself in a countryside house ( putting both architecture & Sound knowlegde in practice ) at the end of every day, after work, I go there to
construct a little more. the rest of the time i spend recording, playing, reading manuals, studying a lot and of course reading Gearslutz threads.

wow... I almost forgot I also have a personal life somewere

HEHE I have writhing enough for two months

Once again, many thanks to you all, you make me forget i live and work in such a tiny place, thanks for giving me a glimps of the real deal.

Welcome new lurkers!

Mostly a lurker, myself, but I have started a few threads and weigh-in on some if feel I can help, or offer an opinion.
This really is a fantastic place to learn and read. And good people i have met, as well.

Jim, we all have handles, cause we are all gear addicts, and changed our names to protect the innocent
I'll out myself, too.
My name is Derek, and I'm a gearslut.

I'm like quite a few around here, a bit of a newbie, but I know a lot of stuff, too.
I've interned, worked with large consoles, used tape before.
So, I just need to find a job! Or, strike out on my own with my low end DAW gear and freelance it.

Okay, I'll try this again

I'm Matt Doherty, I live in Sudbury Ontario. I'm the Creative Director for Big Daddy 103.9, which has fastly become the number one rated station in the city. On the side I have my band Backroads and I run a small studio. I'm a gear addict and have too many guitars and amps for my own good. I come to gearslutz for the amazing amount of knowledge and feedback and look forward to furthering my knowledge in turn. Cheers!

Yes I like to loiter here a lot.

My name is James and I'm one of those audio engineering school grads so I have really nothing to offer compared to basically everyone here.

But I read a lot so when I actually can afford to work an internship at a studio or post facility, I will have a good base of knowledge to work off of.

I will try to post more..

1st step of 12?

Hello, my name is Mark, and I'm a Gearslut.

Only started my real collection of serious recording gear a couple of years ago, and I still lurk & read way more than I ever post. But absolutely, I want to thank all the folks here who have benefitted me and didn't even know it!

I've worked as a broadcast engineer in TV, radio, and cable TV for about 20 years (since 1974), and then as a "hi tech" engineer since then. I decided to finally get into the recording thing because I'd always wanted to, and to merge my musicianship with technical audio sensibilities. It's nice to actually use the gear in the creative ways it is intended to be used, rather than always just fixing it all the time!

You may not hear from me much, but surely I'll chime in from time to time!

Mark Wurfl,
Proud Gearslut

Hi, I am Bert an I am a long-time lurker too.

Untill about a year ago, that is. 'till then I used to read this forum for hours a day... until the internet policy at work changed and the firewall overthere blocked everything that contains slutty content. :(

Anyway, I still try to come by from time to time to sniff the great atmosphere over here. Lots of nice people, lots of great info.

As for my own level of gearslut-ism, I am afraid I don't own a lot of stuff myself, yet. Having done an internship at the Galaxy Studios over here in Belgium, I learnt a lot of slutism at the highest level... But unfortunately I have not way enough work as an engineer to be able to buy some of that great stuff myself.
But on the other hand, I am nowadays lucky enough to have quite some work as a keyboard-player in a band with a nicely filled schedule.
Ah, it's all about priorities, I guess...

Still, that nice smell of fresh (and not so fresh) studio gear attracts me with its unstopable power... Maybe one day I'll have that lucky shot too...?

Your humble casual lurker,
B-)

I'm Shandy, longtime lurker but recently started joining in. I even posted a mike shootout, but didn't get any takers. I blame my new cologne.

I run a project studio in central Connecticut, USA, which used to be an old radio station-- so I find lots of cool stuff in the basement. RtR machines, stereo tube amplifiers and even an old spring reverb that I finally got around to restoring. Sounds sweet.

The studio is nice & busy, but I still manage to spend too much time reading up on youse guys.

my name is adam miner, singer-songwriter, producer-engineer etc.

i'm a semi-lurker. i do work for local groups in southwestern ontario. in the past i've spent a lot of time and money recording my own albums with other engineers to pick up tips and see their work-flow.

GS is an awsome way to suppliment going to other studios and reading the trade magazines. i've picked up a lot of info and noticed that there is a lack of concensus on this board regarding many tools and techniques that i find very exciting.

i'm self-educated, so this board lets me waste time at the computer without feeling like i'm wasting my time!

my current favourite piece of gear that i use is the aphex 1100 mic pre.

i add too much reverb to my mixes and no one can stop me!

my mother asked me what i wanted for christmas and i said a senn 421 and she asked me if i didn't already have enough microphones! i only have 13!
