SONY DMX tricks, opinions, etc.

My studio opened 3 months ago and we have been booked solid. This of course is great but... I have spent my life mixing on large and small format anolog consoles and had very little experience with Sony DMX.
Due to lack of inserts and mix busses I have found myself a bit lost. I have some solutions that have been working for me but I haven't had the time to really experiment.
I know there are quite a few people on gearslutz like Mr. Wanger who seem to have some great solutions to work around the board's weak points.

My current setup is:
Sony DMX with 4 ADAT i/o cards
Protools mix+++ with 2 ADAT/24 bridges and 2 888/24
I have some good outboard EQ's compressors etc. and more arriving...

Please post your Sony DMX tricks and opinions...................

well one thing Ive been doing is creating sub groups in PT/DP etc... and assigning them to channel inputs for instance a parallell drum submix or backing vocals etc...I'm like you I grew up on analog boards but i don't find the buss issue too awful as for inserts i seem to use less and less except on the 2 buss ... by the way the delay time on the dmx is about 65ms...what some peole do is create a template with all channels delayed by that amount or thereabouts and then removing the delay from inserted channels..... for instance if you want to process a snare and keep the kit phase coherent etc...some things you might conside...r the DMX is a grat sounding board digital or analog but a weak link is the DA conversion on the 2 buss... get a benchmark for monitoring ( and in my case I actually connect my digital outs to one to send mixes to my 2 buss analog chain)..... if you see a madi board on ebay buy it.... the Madi gives you the most routing options and the most imputs also with the new ssl interface you can do a direct connetion to a PT core card... no interfaces!

you might consider an external clock it also helps with smeared image....
all in all I can't find a better digital alternative to the dmx under 100K ....yet

cheers
