| AKG C414B XLII X/Y on Acoustic I've got a pair (not matched) of new AKG C414XLII's that I have mounted on a stereo bar in XY config. I set to Cardoid on both. I mic about 6 inches off the 12th fret. I'm running one into my UA Solo 610 and the other through my Fireface Mic Pre. I have an LA-160 on the way that will replace the Pre on the Fireface. On finger picking I'm getting good results, on strumming, not so good. Any suggestions? Thanks, Barry

| Move the mics further out. 6" is too close for strumming, imo. Try about 2 feet back. |

| Does it make sense to keep the mics in XY at that distance? Or should I point one towards the 12th fret and the other towards the bridge? |

| When you say xy, they are on top of each other, right? To get rid of chord blowapart, try positioning overhead at different angles, while still keeping the xy happening. |

| Whatever sounds best. XY is very valid, as there is still plenty of stereo information at that distance and it will be more phase coherent than a spaced pair. However, ORTF or a spaced pair can sound "huge" if that's what you're going for. |

| They are side by side. I have the 414's mounted directly beside each other in thier shock mount so they are even. I know in a typical XY one mic would be above the other

| Barry Arent you having gnashy phase problems that way If you try the more overhead/angled thing, you may like it. It will be a bit more like your ears hear it. |
