Drum replacement in hardware...

I run Radar24 here, mixing digitally. I can't do drum replacement in software, and am seeking suggestions for the best hardware option for this. I've been using an old Alesis D4, but there's surely better available. Suggestions?

Ddrum4 - you can download tons of samples from their web site for free.

It works well accepting audio triggers from recorded tracks? Masks stray events and leakage well? It looks like a pad/brain system for drummers, that's why I'm asking.

Just in case I wasn't completely clear by using the term "drum replacement': I want to replace individual recorded drum tracks from a real kit by triggering from it. I'm looking for something with very reliable high-quality triggering algorithms and good sounds. The D4 ain't bad, really, but its triggering is poor unless you've got a particularly clean input signal and a consistent drummer.

Why not get a cheap PC and run drumagog with the cheapest audio app you can find? Then just transfer the new sample tracks back to radar.

I bet you could set up a drumagog PC for way less then one of those ddrum brains. Plus drumagog is really cool since itll randomely trigger between up to six different sounds so rolls dont sound like machine gun fire.

When you say you are mixing digitally, do you mean you wish to stay in the digital realm with your sound replacing? It just seems like everything would point to Soundreplacer or Drumagog since you could stay in the digital realm.

There are several reasons to get into the Forat. I like sampling into the unit without using the highest resolution. You get a nice sonic characteristic and add a bite factor to the samples. Sometimes it's inappropriate, but that's one of the main factors I like about it.

The Forat is my easy favorite for hardware sound replacement. If you are looking to buy a unit, make sure to check a couple things: how many channels the unit has, if it comes with the remote, if the remote is backlit, what drive format (MO, Floppys, Zip, etc), and the amount of memory in the unit. Most of these upgrades can be done at about a $800 price tag (totally worth it) from Forat.

Sorry but it justa ain't happenin'!@

It's all been tried now and so many times before.... The AD Copy is Absolutely astounding..... They have even managed to get me to BITE
...more than once..(which is the saddest) but really BITE is the operative word here.....

...Now given that you're some stiff who cant play his way out of a wet paper bag then some this stuff may be jus wha the doc ordered....but it certainly ain't remotely for anyone from the camp of anyone even slightly resembling real musicians....(and I mean even slighltly musical and I use the term loosely..... but you'll still be better off w/o this CRAP!

Best Advice is ...START MUSICING right awy..if you can.....if not and you simply need to arrange and compose then go ahead and fall for this stuff........
Same applies to the whole crop of other digital frauds such as AMP Modelers.... Nothing beats a great pair of TUBES! hands down and not a fair fight..if you think it is then you in the wrong biz!!!!! PERIOD~!

From a fool who has bought into the ad copy more than once..ALOT more than once...

If you can't afford some real good sounding skins then you will be much betta off using instrument cases/tables chairs...cardboard boxes for something to beat on....
Palleeeeese dont fall for this BS the way i have..... It's a waste of your time!
In Isolation - it would seem - that some of this stuff is workable...............
NOT REALLY.... not once you get down to real production of viable vibrant sounding tracks..it falls way short.

If you are one of those guys from years ago who did the one-man-midi-band thing and then went and sniffed the reeking buns of Angel and acted like it was cocain!...You may be in heaven......But your heaven has always been my HELL!

To each his own....YMMV etc.....

Oh! ...and if you absolutely positively need to use a DRUM MACHINE then the easily available (ON EBAY) ROLAND R5 abolutely smokes that stupid alesis D4 REALLY! I MEAN IT! NO KIDDING!...from one who has been there and back!...... I hate all these companies but really and for pete-sakes ALESIS D4...CUM ON!...... Check out the Roland.....by comparison...it's your friend...REALLLY!!!!!!!!

But if you can stay away from any of this crap...in the end ......It'll give Ya VD!..... Ya think I'm kidding dont'cha?????? Well I Aint!!!
I'm a passionate musician and I'm tryin' to help my fellow humans...I DOn't Know WHY!!!! I JUST AM!!!!!
I got no adgenda-I'm telling the truth and I'm sure the Dilby's and Nimrods are gonna be outraged! and come out of their propellor headed hovels in a giant blasting rage over such BLASPHEMY.....
GOOD LUCK...I"M OUtta HERE!

Well, the Alesis D4s are pretty good. Consider it a trigger interface and trigger a sampler with MIDI if you don't want to use the stock sounds. I used to use it with a Kurzweil K2000R. You could trigger any sampler or module, hardware or software. I never ran into a problem triggering unless the tracks were particularly muddy.

The DM5Pro is even better.
