OMG! I just came across this freakin awesome site. Maybe some of you already have seen it. Not just wonderful photos of loads of mics, but information, sound files, heck one file has all the mics compared to each other, so for people like me I actually get to hear what a U47 Tube sounds like. Heck even a clip of Frank Sinatra talking in between takes to his engineer on a U47. http://www.coutant.org/contents.html Simply excellent. Whoever is responsible for this great site, a BIG round of applause!

| Yeah, I love that site. I stumbled across it a few years ago when I was looking up as much info as I could on a few mics and I bookmarked it right away. -- Adam Lazlo

The best part of the whole site is ALLMICS.MP3 file! 5 MB of voiceovers of nearly every vintage mic they have on their site. Awesome to hear these old mics and how they compare to each other.

The microphone site corn55 and AdamLazlo, thank you for your kind words. Since my retirement, working on the microphone site has become a primary focus. It all started when one of my students asked for additional information on one of the old RCA ribbon mics. Glad you are enjoying the site.

Gotta say that U87 blew everything else away -IMHO-... Not wondering anymore why it's used in most pro studios. Luckily TLM103 was almost as good with third of the U87 price. It would have been nice to hear U47 with that same voice, not only that Sinatra clip, but im not complaining, amazing site! Well, some Rode mics would have been nice to hear too. ![]()

Thank you, Mark. As you can well imagine, many mics included on my site are those I can borrow in order to photograph them and make a sound sample. A few, such as the U 47, were unavailable. (What a surprise!) Only about thirty of them do I actually own. But I'll keep working on adding more. Stan
