Thread Starter | Would anyone pay to........?
Would anyone pay to see a high speed, high fidelity video of various caliber bullets penetrating a black faced ADAT? I'm thinking about doing this, just for nostalgic, vicarious payback for all the pain and suffering inflicted by ADATs over the last decade. Let me know, as I'd like to break even via MPEG sales. Thanks. Regards, Brian T |

How many frames per second? High fidelity? How many samples per second? I'm all over the concept but we have to make sure the video recording is properly conducted to attain the highest quality results. Will you release it as a DVD? DVD-A? SACD? These are important issues.

I just might be... When do you think you'll get 'a round' to it? I hope you will use a good shotgun mic to record the event...

Yeah, I'd pay for that. It might be more fitting if it were playing the master tapes for Alanis Morrisette's "Jagged Little Pill" what am I saying ? I doubt those tapes could still be played. Rob |

I'd buy a copy, if for no other reason than to see this happen...

make sure you use HD cameras. or film. and VERY high frame rates so it can be slow to a crawl with high res.

Well, a friend of mine published a photograph of Hunter Thompson shooting his 30.6 into an oxegen canister point blank. All you can see is Hunter's legs mid air in the horizontal position and a big ball of flame blowing him backwards. Hunter would also shoot into various images and objects with his collection of firearms, as well as burn and blow them up, then you could see his results at a dowtown Aspen art gallery. Maybe approach this thing as an art project |

Switch from bullets to a big spike and you could probably get Fletcher to kick in for it.

This response looks encouraging, initially. Maybe I should have a really pretty girl in a bikini do the actual shooting? A spokesmodel in a bikini with a camo ball cap on backwards, like Linda Hamilton in T2? Or maybe a more tastefully done spokesmodel in full, fitted camo fatigues? What do we think here? Ahh, so many calibers, so little time. The H&K SR9 in .308. Or the Bushmaster Carbon-15 in .223. Or maybe the LAR Grizzly in 50AE. Nice, big hole there. Even the plain old .45ACP or .40 S&W would look just fine blowing some chuncks of helical scan head and beltdrive out the backside of an ADAT, I believe. More pondering now.....feedback to the above welcomed. Regards, Brian T |

Brian, Have you ever watched any of those Discovery Channel shows where they rebuild old war machines, like catapults? Maybe you should make it a competition to see who can come up with the most inventive way of destroying an ADAT. Make everyone submit a tape and then edit them all together and stick them as a QT movie on CD. Then everyone could buy one and vote for the winner. I bet with all the creativity here there would be some mighty inventive ways to "skin an ADAT." Catapulting one is just the first thing that came to mind. Dropping one from an airplane might be another. My favorite so far, though, would have to be the "ADAT pinata" played with a baseball bat instead of a broom pole. Just a thought. |

I say we send the fragmented, bullet-ridden remains to gearslut catfish11 in Maui, so he can drop them into a lava flow on one of the islands. This and the the gunplay should be caught on high res film! Committing a blackface ADAT to another state of being from which it can never return is the most symbolic method of displaying our grievances!! I don't know, though. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Jesse James destroy a failed Monster Garage attempt with a helicopter extra large caliber machine gun cannon. |

I'm thinking that going medival might be interesting, as in a catapult. David

Brian, Did you ever know John Sands in LA? My last contect with John was at Capitol where he was their chief tech. I think it was in the mid-'80s.

I have, thankfully, avoided having much experience with adats. I did spend a good chunk of last Friday however, transfering 7 songs from 3 adats, one original, one 20-bit, & one 24 bit, into protools HD. For my money, the 20-bit is by far the most deserving of this celebratory destruction. It may have sounded a bit better than the blackface, but it would fail to chase & lock far more often than it would succeed. Oh yeah, then there were the bursts of full-mod white noise once it got a little warm. Lovely.
