Cincinnati Slutz?

Hey Slutz,

Im wondering how many of us are from the Cincinnati area. I dont see very many post from people in this area.

Anyone interested in opening a studio in the heart of downtown Cincinnati? Location, 6th and Main st., just around the corner from Sound Images. Im moving into a commercial spot ( used to be Radio Theater Group) with 2500sf of space, with a decent size control room along with some sweet iso booths. The space also has 3 offices facing down on 6th st to conduct business and a nice big reception area.

Im looking to hook up with some local slutz to toss some ideas around. Let me know if interested. If nothing else at least we made some contacts with people in our area.

Eddie

Well I can't say that I still live in Cincinnat but up until 4 years ago it's where I called home, I even graduated from UC. I'm always in town or looking for an excuse to visit and have several friends there that still do homestudio stuff. If you get a date planned out I'd love to come chat with some 'Nati slutz.

Right on, the list is growing!! "We are the FEW and The Proud".

I know most everyone is busy due to the holidays coming up, but we do have a small break in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Say around Dec 9th (which is a Saturday)... maybe we can plan something around this date? I understand the out of town slutz not being able to make it, but if this turns out right there will be more.

We could hit Benihana's grab a bit to eat and head upstairs to check out the new studio although I doubt I will have it all setup by then. From there we can hit some local clubs to check out some live music and call it a night.

If you guys have any other ideas throw'em out there. Im not to familiar with all the happenings in Cincinnati, I work too much. So, if you got ideas.....let me know.

I'm in the Dayton area and would love to join in. Would also love to hear GEAR if logistically that's possible. Always interested in hearing mics & preamps, etc!

Yeah if possible it'd be nice just to do some shootouts and drinkin. Kind of a mini version of what James Lugo does out in LA.

Yeah no doubt, I just got the keys to the new spot and its going to take some time to get things up and running but that would be super cool. As far as preamps this is what I have to bring to the table. Only running a Digi002 at the moment with a API 512c, Avalon 737, Vintech 1272 and a ADL600, with a Mytek 8x96 converter to PT. Hopefully I will have a Control 24 before the end of the month.

As far as mics go, I have a Soundelux U195, Rode NTK, 3 md 421's, RE20, 3 sm57's, a pair of Rode nt5's, and some cheaper dynamic mics.

Monitors are Event ASP8's thru a Central Station.

Decent home setup, but for the space Im moving into I really need to step my game up. Baby steps for now but hey you can bring all the gear you want to have a night of GearSlut fun.

We are actually looking for someone with gear and experience in engineering to partner up with us. My other two partners are into music comp/production and video shooting/editing. So we are slim on the engineering end, but yes we are looking.

Firby,
Your right, we really need to get the rest of the Nati folks on board. This will be a perfect time to meet and network. This is what this business is all about "Networking". I will make it a point to be ready come the beginning of DEC. It may not be all together as far as studio funiture but the gear will be in place and running. So come on fellas, lets get this going!

Peace,
Eddie

I'm not entirely sure what you mean here. Are you interested in hiring an engineer?? Do you have work???

I am a Cincinnati native who's made my way here in Hollywood writing cues and mixing for television and motion pictures. I've got an over the top successful career/life here in Los Angeles and enough credentials to sink a battleship. I am busy 65 hours a week and more is available if my old body would permit, however..........

I'd chuck it all tomorrow for an opportunity to return home.

In weird way I know what you mean. I grew up in LA, moved to Cincinnati in '87 to open a business. Got married, raised a family. Hate LA. My business partner is in LA and I only see him once every couple of years (under protest). Love Cincy. What a great place to raise kids. Great community (the burbs). It's not perfect but a hell of a lot better than LA.

I mix & record for myself or friends. A lot of my enjoyment comes from DIY'ing my own equipment. I have a complete ANALOG system. Tried computer recording back in the late 80's. It sucked. Spent more money/time with software and hardware issues than I did recording (I hate anything MOTU!). Now I have a 16 Track Otari 90 MK II a couple of analog boards and a bunch of older equipment and mics (decent collection). Plus I have built a half a dozen knock offs of old Tweed Fender amps and am enjoying the heck out of building mic pre's and compressors (LA2A's, 1176's and SSL, Seventh Circle pre's and a Gyraf tube pre).

Would really like to hook up with you guys as my business and family life hasn't allowed me the freedom that I once enjoyed (not that it's a bad thing). But my kids and wife moved to Charlotte, NC (we have a house there, my wife took a promotion with here company). So I have a lot more free time for my hobbies ( I also build motorcycles, put together guitars and am rebuilding a couple of analog consoles).

Really look forward to meeting you guys and seeing where computer recording has gone. The idea of editing in a computer has always intrigued me.

Sorry I rambled on for so long.

hey guys, I am staying up in Cincy for the next few weeks (computer consulting). I am in the Mason/ Harper Station area. I am looking for any good places to go check out gear. I hate going to Sam Ash and Guitar Center.

I tried Midwest at the lateral but he only had like 3 guitar amps and a few fulltone guitar pedals. Do you know of any other places I could try while I am up here?

Send me a PM.

Midwest Music

Sorry to hear about Midwest. I practically lived there in the 90's. Russ kept that place packed with great gear. I haven't been there in years. I really don't shop in Cincinnati anymore except for emergency strings and picks at Buddy Rogers.
Tried Mike's up in Clifton? He has a HUGE amount of Vintage Guitars and amps.

guitars?

If you're here for a few weeks then I'd recommend Mike's too for vintage http://www.mikesmusicohio.com/ - it's in Coryville by UC, not the greatest area. Also Fretware up North on I-75 in Franklin http://www.fretware.cc/ - only open on Saturday - for vintage archtops. And if you're looking for new stuff First Quality Music Supplies in Louisville, not too far http://www.fqms.com/

For pro recording gear - nothing around here I know of.

Well, there ARE some slutz round here.... Good to know. We need more networking stuff here in town and AES hangs just don't seem to cut it.

I've lived here forever, minus college in Boston. I'm building a studio in a church in Newport and will have two controls rooms to boot so will be looking for outside engineers as well. Best of luck with ol' RTG. That's place has changed hands many a time. Where's that old Neotek board? Wudda luv to get a hold of that one.

On another 'Nati note: I'm also the new mastering engineer at QCA and we are in the finishing stages of a complete redesign of the room. We will be having some sort of event to officially open the place here soon. Maybe that could be an occasion to get the slutz together?

I just don't rate them very high. Seems oriented toward live sound. I've bought gear there too, but I always had to order it and wait.

I've had great experiences with Rick at Auraphic, and his prices are wonderful as well. Recently rented a Manley Vari-Mu and a GML 8200 - so sweet.

I rent from Rick all the time - great gear for great rental prices. Good coffee at his coffee shop as well.

If you're looking for strictly for guitar gear - i live close to a little place called Centerville Music between Middletown and Dayton. Good dudes - good on repairs - good instruments.

Highend recording gear? Not round here.
