New mics.

Hey all I'm in the market for new OH mics and a few closemics.
I'm not shure what to get, I need 2 OH and 3 closemics for drums, amps etc.
The pricerange is medium to top range. Any suggestions?

rode nt5's are great on oh's and for $400 for the pair a great value! For close stuff depending on if you mean snare or toms or what you could get some 421's(which sound great on elec. guitars too) for tom's and a couple 57's for snare! and if you need a kick mic the d112 is nice!

good luck

I'd definately listen to some Earthworks cardioids (SR20. SR25) for overheads. The periscope series looks good for close mics, but I haven't tried them.

The Heil PR30 looks promising for guitar cabs and such as well.

AT has a new 450 that looks like it might be worth a try too.

And don't forget about those Kel HM1 - at $130 it's worth having around.

Is there any threads inhere that compares the 2?
Has anyone A/B tested them?

I like the AKG 414s for the overs and maybe U87s Pearlman for the close room

For the close Mic's i like Sen. 421s on the toms

Kick gets the RE 20

And the snare for me is just a 57 top and most of the time 57 bottom

All these workhorse Mic's can be used for many other instruments

AKG 414's or 451's for your OH and 57's or 421's for your toms and guitar amps.

My fav overheads are Peluso CEMC-6s. Toms 421 and Kick RE20, but I've also been using ATM25 and like that a lot too.
