PTLE 002/Folcrom & ADC

If I have RenComp on a channel(64 samples of latency), does that come into play if I'm not summing in PTLE but taking it as an output directly into a Folcrom & summing there?

Does lack of Automtatic Delay Compensation come into play if you're summing externally?

Yes... you will still have delay if you sum externally because the processing of the plug-in is still happening internally.

ADC applies to plug ins and to analog inserts in TDM. PT LE doesn't have ADC for analog inserts but AFAIK PT LE has ADC (for plugins) up to a little over 1000 samples, so no problem with your ren comp whether summing internlly or externally.

I've heard this mentioned before but I dunno...because I definitely hear the phasing thing when I stick Ren Comp on a parallel Comp aux...unless I compensate for it by adding a bypassed plug.

oops. i've never used ren comp for paralell compression. matter of fact i really don't use rencomp at all (have platinum, SSL, restoration bundles) but thanks for the heads up. when i get back to the TDM rig i'll have to check it out.

seems like this ADC thing isn't 100% ironed out, doesn't it?

I had a 002R for years, and you're right... latency is not compensated for and many waves plugs have delay.

In my experience, the latency read out function in PT was mostly accurate and useful for nudging tracks... crucial for parallel processing.

Again... all of this happens in your DAW before your signal would be sent to your D/A converter, so summing outside the box won't eliminate the need to compensate for latency in PTLE.

wait. so LE and m-powered have no plug in ADC whatsoever? i thought they had something like 1024 samples of ADC (not at the rig now).

i've had TDM for years but i'm new to m-powered. using it for portable overdubs but only using SSL and Elio Air EQ plugs ( i believe they have no delay) so i haven't noticed a difference.

In PTLE/002 if you have an audio channel with a kick on it and bus that out to an aux with a Ren Comp on it & bring up that Aux/Comp(with both channels going to the same outputs)...it's out of phase for days. I've done it with a demo of the Waves SSL Comp & it was fine. Of course there's work arounds that I've read here & one way that I discovered myself...but man it wears me out. Nuendo you can do this all day long but I desire the editing in PT. HD I guess!
