a great amp tech?

Could someone recommend a great amp tech in Los Angeles? Just bought an older JCM 800 that seems to have a microphonic tube, but sounds great when it's not squealing like that scene from Deliverance.

There's guy in Hollywood named Jerry Blaha that does really good work. He has
a company called Amp Crazy. Phone number 323-654-4908. Also, a guy named
Greg Leon is really good too. Don't know his number, but he's on Vine & Santa
Monica. Or, you could just tap the preamp tubes lightly with a pencil
to find the one that's microphonic and just replace it/them.

Thank you - I just left a message for Jerry at Amp Crazy.
Much appreciated!

Jerry's a good guy. On a completely unrelated note, you don't know
Christine Russell, do you?

got great amp techs here in nyc and in upstate ny - BOTH.

but, that probably doesn't do you much good.

good luck.

ps. let me know if you want references.
i've spoken with the neve/amek guy in LA, Martin Arthurs - he's AWESOME. maybe he knows someone (a geek is a geek is a geek - all us techies are geeks )

Good luck

Robert Dixon, The Amphole is really good 818-729-7944

The Amp Shop in Sherman Oaks does solid repairs, they'd be good for something like that if you already know it's a good sounding amp. 818-386-5500

But the man is Mark Cameron. He works at Bogner and does amazing Marshall mods. However, you may not hear from him for 6 months. Or maybe he'll do it on the first weekend. He's the shit though. If you can do without this one for awhile- it would come back ruling. 818-445-2059.

Usually it's one of the 12AX7s (and most often the first one). Turn it up and plug into a cab. Tap on the small tubes (12AX7s). You should hear the microphonic one. So I'd just try swapping out a new one before taking it to a tech. My JMP (which is similar to a JCM 800) is sounding nice these days with Electro-harmonix 12AX7-LPS tubes. But any 12AX7 should solve this problem.

Good luck,

Mike

I'll second the amphole in Van Nuys.

Great service the one time I needed him.

Mike - thank you so much! That's a wealth of info and I'll follow up on a few of those suggestions.
