When did the dbx 160X come out? I apologize if this should have gone in the Geekslutz forum, but does anyone know what year the dbx 160X was introduced?

You know change that. I still think they were making processors up to the time they were sold to BSR in 1979 while they were still in Mass. I've seen some 160X's that were made in Boston so probably mid to late 70's? I believe David Blackmer introduced his first compressor circuits in 1971. I read a review of a 160VU from Studio Sound 1976 here: http://www.vintageking.com/site/files/archives.htm

I think that the 160X came out in about 1982. I have always been surrounded by gear and I recall renting a dBx 160x in October of 1982. I can recall this because it was at the first gig I mixed for a band that my wife sang in and we went to Houston, Texas. This was the first time that I met her, so I have pretty good recollection of the date! I sent the bass player and band leader to pick it up (and pay the rental fee) and when he showed up with the thin box I thought he picked up the wrong thing. I recall thinking, "Wow! This thing new!" when I oped it up and saw it. I seem to recall the gear dealer saying, "This is the new version of a dBx160." when I took it back. So, they could have possibly been available earlier, but it was secret from me. They were definitely not available at dealers prior to that. Danny Brown
