| AES is all I need. RME? I never used AES before. I need to use it now. Since it is a digital format, and I will never go above 2 channels at a max sampling rate of 96khz ; would there be any difference in picking up an RME Digi 96/8 PAD as opposed to an HDSP9632? I will have no use for the on board converters as I will be using outboard conversion, A/D and D/A. Am I right in thinking that the HDSP9632 will do the job just as well as the Digi 96/8 PAD? What are your thoughts? Lucin |

| Well, actually the 9652 is equipped with ADAT interfaces. Digital, yes, but if you need AES you need the RME AES-32 which is what I'm using. I love it. Stable as a rock. Best Regards, Mike. |

| Lives for gear | RME is very stable. The only other option is the Lynx AES16 also excellent. Good luck.

| I just got a Lynx AES16 because I want to run multi channels of AES. (Tired of the short cable limitations of s/pdif & firewire). But if you only need two channels, you might be able to use a cheap s/pdif card. You can buy some Neutrick transformers that convert s/pdif to AES or vice versa. That would allow you to run your long AES cables, and then convert to s/pdif at the soundcard end. The transformer matches the impedance and voltage, and balances/unbalances the signal. There is a slight difference in the digital header data, but a good soundcard like M-Audio will let you choose between s/pdif & AES (consumer & pro). Mercenary stocks the transformers - also some cheaper short cables if distance isn't the issue. But as soon as you need more than two channels, it gets expensive. I choose the Lynx AES16 SRC version and it seems good so far. |
