I've tried all the stuff that comes with Stomper, Avery labels, you name it. I was so unhappy with it all I ended up making a template in Illustrator. Well worth the time it took to set it up. I also made a template in Word (using tables) for adding text to labels I've already preprinted with Illustrator.

CD Labels

I got fed up with trying to label CD's and DVD's so I went out and bought a Lightscribe DVD Burner. Basically it burns an image directly onto the Disc for you. Heres the website: www.lightscribe.com . I bought a LaCie drive that could do it.

For CD inserts and the such there is a good program for Mac called Disc Cover, available here: http://www.belightsoft.com/products/...r/overview.php . I haven't bought this yet (largely cause I just don't need it that badly) but I tried the demo and it was pretty cool.

i have the same printer.. i have a 340 and a 220. i bought the 340 b/c it was the same price as getting the ink for the 220 at staples.... then i found ink on ebay for like $50 but its cool i like the 340 more..
i think i'ma go buy a litescribe dvd-rw tomorrow.. i get tired of printing cd's for artist when they go to shows and crap. i hope the litescribe is faster than the inkjet....

i use Acoustica CD Label Maker, which i hate but it gets the job done.
never tried photoshop yet but i'm sure there's a template out there somewhere.. i can have a friend that does graphics for a living make one....

I'm using CD Label Print that came with my Canon printer (ip4200).

It's hardly PhotoShop but it gets the job done nicely and with a minimum of fuss.

Steve,

All the "purpose-built" CD design programs I've ever used were terrible, though I admit I haven't tried them all. I use Visio, which is an engineering program, and it's fabulous for CD labels and art. I made some templates and put them here:

I'm fairly used to my old copy of Design Express from Microvision which, judging from the website, seems to have evolved into the Surething labelling program. I prefer it to the Canon software (like you, I have the ip4200). The biggest problem with the Canon printer is that not many programs seem to support direct CD printing on it yet.

Cheers

James.

Thank you, what it seems difficult to find is a template in a more 'advanced' program (Photoshop, Illustrator, Visio, etc.) that is compatible with the Epson R340 direct-to-cd printing, while it's pretty easy to find templates for jewel-box sleeves, booklets, etc. Maybe I'll try to make one by myself, it shouldn't be THAT difficult for people dealing with ProTools every day...

Check out Neato's site. They have templates for all the major programs.

I have pretty good luck using Photoshop Elements (cheapo version of Photoshop) with Neato's templates and labels.

i use photoshop for this.

at a resolution of 96dpi, after MUCH experimentation, i have found the following pixel sizes to work for jewel case labels:

Front: 460x455

Back: 567x443

the back size includes the spine labels, so plan accordingly.

for direct cd printing i use that cheap $80 Epson and give the cds a thin coat of Testor's Dull Cote once they've dried.

cheers,
wade

Any LE version of a graphics program is going to be more versitile than a dedicated CD label program like Neato or CD Stomper. I've made my own templates for Apple Works, and I have a small paper cutter, so I can just use card stock and cut out 4 3/4" by 4 3/4" squares for the front insert after they're printed. Also, it's nice to have 2 computers going at the same time, one to burn CD's and the other to print stuff. Any old PC will work for printing.
