Thread Starter | Anyone had both a U195 & ADK Vienna or Hamburg?
I sold my U195 just a bit ago because it seemed it didnt have enough sparkle or magic (color maybe? )to it for my tastes, yet it wanted to be sibilant a lot. Thinking about trying out an ADK Hamburg or Vienna in its place. Keep in mind that the primary 1st try preamp on vocals with this mic will be a Seventh Circle N72 so it has some voodoo already. 2nd available option will be Seventh Circle A12. Anyone have both? Is the ADK a step down? I want a mic that wont give me bad sibilance problems for sure. Thanks for the input. Paul The brand new version of Studio Projects C1 seems interesting. Upgraded components, better build, etc.

I have a U195 and I just got a pair of the ADK audiophile TL's. I havent had a chance to check them out yet but hope to do so shortly, I'll let you know. By the way the C1 is good for a car brake

Hey Tube Dude, I've been using a Beyerdynamic M260 with my Seventh Circle N72 lately. I really like the combination. It's really rich and not too sibilant. I record rock mostly and have used it for both male and female vocals. They can be found for under $300 on eBay usually. Jeff |

Just came across this thread ... I have a 195 and both Vienna and Hamburg (mark II I believe). All great mics iMHO, and all different, but to answer your question directly, the ADK's are not in any way a step down from the 195. 195 is probably a bit more versatile, both with the sound and the features (the Fat switch in particular), but you could cover a lot of bases with one of each of the ADK's. There's a thread re the ADK's over on the Low End forum (which should be on the High End forum IMHO, but that's another discussion). Peter |

I've never had a 195. I did try the ifet7 for a week or so. Sent it back (too much sizzle for me). I have the Hamburg mk2 and the Vienna mk2. So far the Vienna2 wins on most contemporary vocals. The Hamburg2 is a great tone as well. The Vienna 2 is probably better for female vox, pop vox, rap vox. The Hamburg better suited for males and other uses like bright acoustic gtrs, violins etc. remember, you'd want the mark 2s (hopefully they'll change the name soon....) the mark ones are not in the same class. hth brian |

So at least that adds a TINY bit more clarity, the Hamburg&Vienna Mk8 are the mics that sell for around $300, and the "Custom Shop" Hamburg67/Vienna12 are the higher-end models selling for around $1000.
