| IN THE BEGINING - there was a crappy sounding room... Ok. I just finished with a custom console and got everything close to where I an start recording save for the acoustics in the room. I'm about to address the room sonics and I've decided that I'm going to do it myself. I'm a do it yourself kinda guy out of necessity as the funds just don't flow like some studios. So with that in mind, What is the best, most cost effective way to go. It seems like the mineral wool is the cheapest. But where is the cheapest place to get it? And is there a free place that I could go to, upload the dimensions of my room, and get some idea of where and how many 2x4 panels I should hang and how? I've heard that you want to control things but you don't want the room dead. Well that statement goes far to add uncertainty and make me question how to proceed. So where do you begin? I'll start by saying that I'm dealing with a finished attic about 30 ft long and 15 ft wide. It's about 10 ft tall and slopes down on either side leaving about 5.5 ft from the carpeted floor to the first ceiing joint. If you were looking from one end to the other, it would look like a trapezoid. What do you think? Thanks all. |

| Maybe you could check out acoustic design forums such as John Sayers, site. www.johnlsayers.com be sure to check out the Recording Manual link (SAE) and the "Don't even think about posting before you read this" thread. Good luck! |
