Los Angeles NAMM party ideas!

We are having the 2nd Annual Gearslutz NAMM Party!

Last year was a huge success so we're gonna do it again. So here's my thoughts;
NAMM is January 17th - 20th, I'm thinking throw the party Friday January 19th from 8pm till either the cows come home or e-cue goes home... which ever comes first.

I've already been asked by some gearslutz to do a mic and mic pre shootout. So that's the basic theme of the party; alchohol and expensive tube mics! Between my collection and picsail & b-magical we have some cool mics. I'll also talk to Bryan McCurry at Platinum about bringing over some, he's the real dope dealer in town; 251, U67, U47, VM1 KHE, M49 etc... I'll also talk to BAE, A-Designs, Pearlman, Charter Oak, Avedis Audio and see what they can bring. You guys are welcome to bring your mics too and see how they stack up. I'm also going to see if Brad Lunde can bring by one of the new Soundelux 351 mics, that thing sounded like pure evil in the headphones at AES. I'm dyin' to sing into that badboy. This is going to be an opportunity for you guys in rural America or wherever to hear the best boutique gear on the planet without maxing out the Am Ex. I'm going to record everything and give people CD's of what was tracked so they can go home and listen to the different combonations of mics/mic pres/compressors/EQs. Want to know what a Pearlman>Pacifica>1176>La2a or TeleUSA 251>TG Channel>C2 or E47>LTD-1>Distressor sounds like, this is the place to be... and go home with a 24 bit file. A little piece of heaven.

Let me know your thoughts?

How about some TAB and or Thermionic Culture stuff? I could manage to send by the new NPNG pre which will probably still be in design at that time but should be pretty damn close to at least an alpha production version if not a beta.

Interested?

you can.
Just ask your favorite local sales guy if they have any spare passes. Hopefully you've got someone that takes good care of you. Most music stores get a few extra passes ( though this happens a bit less lately).
Check it out..

Sounds good James,

It would be cool to do a gear hang and meet you and some other slutz in person. We spoke on the phone a few years back when you were looking for a drummer for your band...

Your name has come up at my studio a few times (Your drummer friend Adam came in recently), and I work a lot with Matt Forger.

count me in!

And thanks for having it on Friday instead of Saturday. The Saturday thing made me miss it last year.

And James, your Xtra Boom is on the way.

I be there! Was great last year and I do not get to meet to many other gear junkies like myself since I work with the singer songwriter type more.
I wish I had a cool mic to bring... guess I'll have to bring cool beer instead.
Alright see you all there.

That's awesome. I'd love to go-- I'll just need to score some NAMM tickets since I'm not a retailer. If anyone can score some extra ones (I could use two ) they would be much appreciated. Hook a brutha up and I will owe you drinks, for sure.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but Round Badge, how does the Korby 47 head compare to the Wunder CM7? I have the Korby convertible, but I'm curious about some of the other 47 clones out there.

Well..the bummer is.. the Wunder started acting weird about 2 day's after I got it..so it goes back to the shop for some love ..i'm told by Mike that the mic underwent some custom changes before i got it..[a brighter Gefell cap vs. a standard M7 and some other electrical tweaks]and it might have a tube issue..[oh well ..shit happens,right?..]
As far as i'm concerned,it's basically unuseable until it gets checked out at the shop and the cap is switched back to an original M7[which also may take some time to get..the old Neumann capsule guy in Germany who reskins for Everybody on the planet., is on his own schedule I'm told.. ..could be 3 weeks ..could be months. fingers crossed

I am confident Mike is gonna make the thing sing eventually.
..sooner the better obviously..
or at least hopefully by Namm time.
Hell..David Kahne has one & Paul McCartney has two of em'...can't be half bad eh?

I can tell you from my experience that the Korby 47 head sounds a bit smaller than an original 47 ..
probably gonna trade that cap in for another flavor.don't really use it much.

excuse me ..back on topic...
