Thread Starter | Where to rent Fostex G24s or get tape transfer?
Hey, I have some 1" 24 track reels that I need transferred to digital. They are about 11-14 years old. But haven't been touched in 10. The machine they were cut on was a Fostex G24s. I know this is kinda a rare bird though. I used to run and setup that machine at the project studio they were done at, but the studio closed and this was before digital transfers were common. Anyone know where I can rent one? OR....get the transfer done? What cost should I expect per reel? Or for the rental? One reel is an AGFA, which I heard some of those had "shredding" problems. If I attempted to run this tape ONCE, what kind of nightmare am I setting myself up for? I've never had the pleasure of shredding tapes, so I don't have a clue. That said, it's not certain there is even a problem with this particular reel. Maybe sitting for 14 years would make it less prone to shedding? Thanks in advance. |

I happen to own a Tascam MSR24S which has the same format as the G24S (1" Dolby S), but the distance might be a problem. tutt About the sticky tape thing, no problem, bake it and you're done. Google for Eddie Ciletti, who has a nice article about baking on his website. |

Hmm, never "baked" before, but looks interesting. Would I need to bake them all or just the tape of concern? Anyone else have this machine? |
