my insprirations for DIY basstrap builders

i am nearly finished with rebuilding my studio. thanks to gearslutz, ethan, john sayers i recognise that trapping and monitoring is the most important thing. i was building the absorbers myself and here are some photos for your inspiration...

it worked out great, cost ap. 40 euros for the small 80 euros for the bigger ones. as you can see, the front corners can not build with fixed corner traps (window-door), so i made 2 standing and movable traps. most pain in the ass: drilling the holes and strain the fabric over the frames.

Hey...those things look pretty good! But, how do they work? Notice a difference?

Of course, now all you need are monitors!!!

Very nice! Do you happen to have any pics of them being built? I like the idea of the holes in the side panels. Did you do that for acoustic reasons or just to make them lighter/cooler looking?

Whats inside those babies?

Does anyone ever photographic anything around here straight on anymore?

Its all of these upshots, bend shots and side shots.

By the way that last one has a Kubrick 2001: A Space Odyssey vibe.

yes monitors was degraded during wireing....

the sides boards are 12 cm and i thought it will be good to make the partly absorbative. i drilled the biggest possible holes in a distance that will not corrupt the stability. it can be made easyer some how without the holes but...thats me. it doesnt hurt that they look cool...

i will make some more detail pictures tomorrow...

Well done!
I got the same fabric for my traps in the booth. Even same colour.
Did you get it from Karstadt?

yes its hard to please thrillfactor, i know. the reason is simple: with a budget digicam like my nicon you can not made the lens wide-angle like a 28mm lens on a analog camera. so in rooms like this you can not shoot a picture where geting the arangement all together. only when you sit on the floor, to get more distance to the object...

Having holes in the sides of your frames is a great way of increasing your absorbtion, especially if you're doing a lot of panels. Last year I put 33 panels up (roughly 20 sq m of absorbtion) - by cutting out 'lozenges' running down the sides of the frames, I got another 6.8 sq m of absorbtion.

Shangoe - where did you get your glass wolle? Have you got any stats for it's absorbtion? I've got a friend in Kreuzberg who's just about to do his studio, and I know he'd be interested to know what's available right now. The guys I used in Koepenickerstr now seem a bit reluctant to order any less than a couple of tons of the stuff at one time...

nice looking traps!

i used cellulose slaps called "FlexCL" realy, realy good acoustic material and not toxic or problematic to your skin...you can get it at a öko-building store in kreuzberg, i think Schlesische Strasse 38, schulz - baustoffe.

what you can not see on the picture is a thirt beam on the backside midle. this make it possible to stabilize and position it in the corner.

Many of us here are working in control rooms that could so easily be made far more accurate, Ill bet.

Just my opinion..but tuning the control room properly is a far better use of $$$ than any bit of electronic gear would be.

Hey there, I'm also in Germany (Munich) and was worried about health issues from rockwool or glass fiber.

Seems like that FlexCL (flexCL® *|* HOMATHERM) stuff is really great. I wonder where you can buy it at a good price and how flexible it is. Think it would work with these kind of frames? (middle of page: How I built my bass traps...)
