I agree. I've always been a sucker for vibed out house studios. Indead, they do have some nice looking gear in there.

I'm glad to hear that they are still making cool records.

you can't make a good sounding record at a home studio...... probably won't sound good cause they're not in a pro studio...

volume depletion, have you heard any of their records? all sound pretty good to me. especially their "stay on my side tonight" ep, which was apparently a low budget affair from what i heard, the drums on that record sound amazing, so much life in them

Thats probably the most ridiculous and uninformed comment ever made in this forum. If you can't make a good record in YOUR home studio, its YOUR fault. Especially if you've got loads of Chandler gear lying around... (not saying that Jimmy Eat World doesn't make good records)

In fact, a lot of records I hear coming out of "pro-studios" come out sounding like crap. This whole notion of home vs pro studios is ridiculous. Have you ever seen a picture of David Gilmours "home" studio? Its better than 99% of pro studios! Seems like the Jimmy Eat World guys have got a very decent signal chain too.

That's sarcasm to my ears. And how it sounds to me is how it must be, right? That's what I've read here, anyway . . .

?? Not sure where you are getting that from. ProTools doesn't "sound" like anything anyways. I suppose i could have considered what you said before as sarcasm except that you seem to directly contradict the previous statement in your second post. Of course you don't have to have good gear to make it sound good.

See I'm really not sure what your point is. Are you trying to suggest that simply because one operates a studio (good gear or not) as a non-professional they can't make a good record? If so, I would also have to HEARTILY disagree! Not that there aren't millions of bad home studio records, but some of the best records out there are Tascam 4-trk bedroom setups.

Even though I love tape I am forced to use ProTools in todays market place as well. Just using the internal clock in protools seems to bring the tightness that I want.....External clocks are a scam. I've shot all of them out and the internal clock seems to be best.

I agree about using the internal clock. Bob Katz has a lot to say about this as well, check the mastering forums. He can explain it much better than I can.

TROLL!

Guys, come on, just ignore this "VolumeDepletion" chump. Obvious troll.

Don't feed the trolls. It only makes them come back.

Ignoring a troll - totally ignoring them - no matter how hard, is the silver bullet. Put them on your ignore list. I've already done it for this troll, and now I can enjoy the thread in peace.

Great link - thanks Alexi! JEW is still one my favorite bands. Clarity is probably my favorite rock album, ever. Don't laugh, please, ok? I just love these guys. Not many rock bands can do the "growing up and making more mature records" think well, but these guys do. Futures was freakin' incredible.

If only my home studio looked like that...

If you are talking about stay on my side:
Some songs yes and some songs no!
They scrapped a whole record of material with Mark that was supposed to be Futures. That is some of it and some of it is just the outakes from the Gil Norton sessions. Not to into that EP despite this bands normal output being some of my favorite. The most clever homage to The cure though is calling that song disintergration and stealing the facination street bass sound! Amazing band cause they are creative with pop music without being avante garde. Never sacrifice the song for musical intellect or vice versa.

...........i read an interview with Trombino recently and he was talking about "some problems" during the making of the record.......i still wonder why they scrapped the whole record if they already started to produce it with Trombino......
