Dude, if you're going less than seven feet, you can just use a cable to connect AES to S/PDIF.

Sounds good

What about 8ch ADCs with AES only ?

Specs. Are you talking Digi PTLE or M-Powered, or HD or what?

I know it's money, but the ADI-8 will do:

8-channel AES to ADAT optical converter (96kHz)
2-channel AES to 8-channel ADAT splitter (96kHz)
8-channel ADAT to AES converter (96kHz)
2-channel AES to 8-channel AES splitter (96kHz)
4-channel AES Double Wire to AES Single Wire converter (96kHz)
4-channel AES Single Wire to AES Double Wire converter (96kHz)

Remember that no PTLE interface with ADAT will let you do ADAT above 48kHz.

'bout $700

I realize what your thread title says, but I think you're going to pay.

Sorry, i didn't catch the thing.

you mean this unit, should be plugged vía ADAT through 002 o 1814 (for example), in order to be able to use it with PT ? am i right ?.

ok i got it.

-------------

Is there any other unit with AES in, that would let me trasnsfer 8ch through FireWire ? ( no PT, don't worry )

thanks.

Are you saying you have an AES output preamp/converter that you need to get into PTLE?

If so, you need to convert the AES to ADAT unless you're good with two channels, and can use S/PDIF. AES to S/PDIF over a short distance can be adapted with a cable.

mmm... not too concerned about PT really.

I beleive is more important to me, to get the 8ch ADC (AES output only ) ---> through Firewire in my PC.

Is this possible ?

Is this true? I thought a conversion was necessary. What about those S/PDIF/AES converter boxes that are available?

I got this info from Zach at Mercenary:

Once you go through the breakout cable you will need the AES to SPDIF transformers, http://www.mercenary.com/neditr.html. This is because the cable length will probably be over 2 meters (6 feet). If you were less than 6ft you could use the RCA to XLR digital cable.
I've confirmed that this works, although I remembered it being seven feet.
