2 pin hot to 3 pin custom cable converter? quick question: on an earlier post somone clued me in on what my problem might be with a trs to xlr snake being wired 2 pin hot, and the otari 5050 mkiii being wired for 3 pin hot... i can try re-soldering my current snake, but that would render it inoperable for other applications. does anyone know if there are companies out there who make a cable or adaptor that is a 2 pin to 3 pin hot converter? even just a 12" cable with the appropriate adaptors and wired properly... etc would be good. that way i can just plug them into my recorder, and my snake into them.. and i'm done. any help would be appreciated. Thanks! -Clint

From your other post you mention that this is a cheapie cable with sealed ends. The Shure adaptors would cost you more than the whole snake. Just get a proper snake made for this and be done with it. Don't worry about it not working with other stuff as this is the backbone of your studio and you should be moving this around too much. Unless you have another recorder, you're probably always going to have the board tied to the otari, right? Assuming you want to use an adat or other recorder that you mentioned before, you can use a patch bay to do that switching. I'd pretty much keep a snake dedicated to the board/tape deck. Get a good one that you can resolder yourself or call someone like redco to make it for you. Isn't that their name? I haven't used those guys in some time....I'm sure someone else might chime in with other custom cable companies. m

..... so the answer would be no. they don't exist. ... i guess i'll just make some... i usually don't trust my soldering skills enough to expect anything to last very long so i like to have an "out of the box" solution... so i have somone elses crappy soldering to blame when it fails. ha ha. thanks for the help. -Clint
