The car listening test....I need a new rig.

I've got a Toyota Tacoma with the stock factory stereo.

It sucks. I don't even like to listen to music on it , just talk radio.

I'd like to check mixes from time to time.

Anyone have suggestions on what to replace it with?

Not too much $$$ and I don't need to rattle windows in the neighborhood. Just a good sounding stereo. I'll need an in dash cd player as well....I've been using one of those tape adapters (could that be the bulk of the problem?)

Brands? Models? Dealers? (I'm in So. Cal)

thanks.

I am pretty lucky when it comes to factory speakers.

My Toyota Echo and Ford Focus have excellent sound. I always use them as a refference after burning a CD

What kind of toyota do you own?

I kept the rig in my truck 'stock' when I got it on purpose. I like hearing things in my ride the way most of the public would too when I do my car tests.

the ride from the studio to home is 30 minutes single trip. Like e-cue my car is equiped factory standard. probably my most important reference to test mixes ..... it's good to have 'normal' gear around to check how 'normal' people hear it.

Are you trying to say that we're not normal???

Maybe if you're Slipperman and you've spent to many sleepless nights in the studio (Slipperman - you da man! keep sharing with us - get back to work!)

I'd like to think of us as intelectually advanced.
