Anyone Know an Accordion Player? In UK (London) I'm doing a track for a TV commercial which needs a real accordion. Should be nice and easy; the song is already composed and its only thirty seconds; should be about 1 or 2 hours work. In fact, is there a good database for hiring UK session players?

If you're not able to find one there - I've got one that is top drawer here in the US. He's currently performing almost daily at the Hofbrauhaus (if you're familiar with this) and is their star performer. I have a top flight studio here and can do tracks in a variety of formats (API-Wunder-Neve pres, Manley-EAR-TC-Meek-EL8 compressors, great mics, Nuendo, HD24 etc). You'd just have to contract the player - we'll record it gratis. He's a top professional and I'm quite sure you wouldn't be disappointed. Chase

I've seen and met these folks a few times at Winfield, *incredible* musicians: www.davidmunnelly.com David is the leader and accordian player. Based in Ireland, not London. They may still be on tour right now, so not sure about session work. Well worth it if you can connect. Or at least try to see a show! Steve

Thanks for all the responses; I would definately have considered some of the worldwide suggestions had I not just (almost) completed my new studio. This will be my first session recording here and I've got a few new toys which are raring to be give a run out. I contacted Alan Dunn and he will be doing the session on Monday afternoon. Any tips on recording the accordion are most welcome. I have a 9x9 foot live room. Thanks again.

there was a thread on recording accordion a few months ago. you could probably find it with a search. my experience with accordion micing is more with live reinforcement than recording, but I have had decent results using a rode ntv (omni tube ldc) in the room with it, far enough away that it gets and even mix of both sides of the accordion. If you have a real sudio, you can probably do better than this, though.

| Gear addict | I'm sure, as an experienced session player, he will have valuable suggestions for you. The one time I recorded a very good accordianist, he tipped me off to the fact that the instrument sends quite different sounds to either side. We used one mic at each of his hands, and this was very helpful during mixing.
