Terry is a great mixer, and producer as well. He's done some amazing records in his time, and this new unearth is sonically superior to the previous album. Coolest guy on the planet too, which is always a bonus.

I preferred the sound of the first album. The second one is very raw and [imo] lacks the production that made the first one great. The songs are good, but my honest opinion is that the mixing is very average and "flavor-less" for lack of a better word. Sounds like Terry's goal was to make them sound like every other metal band.

It sounds incredible, but my only gripe is that it would've been better titled "The Oncoming Storm... Again".

Production-wise, i love it.

yeah, I'm a huge Terry Date fan and wasn't impressed with the production or mix of this album.

why do they just film themselves and each other rubbing their dicks?

Maybe they really should just **** each other and get it over with?

I talked to their singer about this record.

Drums were tracked with no edits. Mistakes were left in. The songs were not recorded to a click.

i am also a HUGE fan of Terry Date's work, but the production is pretty dissapointing honestly. it sounds good, but not different from many other recordings for that genre.

the music itself is really typical and generic.... boring stuff. that whole new wave of "metalcore", or whatever they call it, is very formulaic. but that's just my opinion.

anyways. i'll go back to listening to "Heartwork" by Carcass.

Interesting. On the first track I could swear I was hearing mis-triggers on the kick. I guess I know what it is now.

I have to bring this thread back to life.

All of Terry's work is great but I want to hear this record BEFORE it was mastered.
I really want to know if there were any dynamics to begin with. This thing is table topped off pretty bad.

Now that its been out for awhile... any other thoughts...

Terry is an awsome engineer. I remember the first time I heard "Around the Fur," it changed the way I listened to recordings. ***I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE HIM AS A GUEST MOD!!***

The thing I like most about TD's work is his ability to get a unique sound for every band he does. His productions always sound "Fresh," IMO.

As for the new Unearth record, I'm pretty sure the band wanted it sound like that. If Terry was able to covey the bands' sonic vision, then he did his job.

Heres a thread that has some decent Terry Date info in it:

did somebody in this thread seriously say the oncoming storm was their first album?
anyway, this crap is boring. them and misery signals seemed like they might do something good with their bands, since they're both down to earth and don't wear makeup and had been in good bands before, but they've both just gone numetal.

Nu-metal? I think not.

The Oncoming Storm was a good record. Some wicked guitar playing on that album.

the guys in the band are drawing well from coast to coast for their live shows and know how to rip it...

I also heard the guitarist "ken" has a quality working studio in the Boston Area
