Thread Starter | Sound Advice on Microphone Techniques - Bill Gibson. Good? Hi, I'm checking out various mic technique books, and I can't find any mention of it on this site. Anyone ever check out Sound Advice on Microphone Techniques by Bill Gibson? Supposed to come with an audio reference CD as well. Any other suggestions for the same topic (saw Professional Microphone Techniques listed - wondering if there is a "better" or if there's really that many techniques and most books cover all)? thanks, Will |

| I can't advise you about the Bill Gibson book. But you woudl do well to check ou the book discussed on this thread. It covers a lot else besides microphone selection and techniques, but it does cover them also - very well - and in a way you won't find elsewhere. |

| Lives for gear | i really like "the microphone book" by john eargle. it is somewhat geared more toward classical recording, but includes plenty of studio micing guidance, and lots of technical background material.

Thread Starter | Thanks guys, but I already read through the search lists -- Mixing with the Mind I'm already thinking about getting -- I'm just seeing if anyone has seen this specific Bill Gibson book before spending money. Will |

| Try "Professional Microphone Techniques" if you need some theory and lots of illustrations. The authors are David Miles Huber and Philip Williams, edited and Illustrated by Bill Gibson. And it does include an audio CD. Pretty good overall book for getting started. As far as "Mixing with your mind" for microphone techniques, I would only consider it as supplemental reading because of the great deal of generalization you may or may not understand the author's objective. Like anything else in life YMNV. ![]()
