Thread Starter | IR-1 pre-delay question
IR-1 allows you to put seperate pre-delay times for the early reflections and the tail. For the most natural sound, should I apply the same settings to both ER & Tail ? Thanks. Dave

For the room to sound "real" or natural it would make sense for the tail or reverb not to start before the first early reflection, since reverb is the reflections of all the initial/early reflections. With that said, I have timed tightly packed pre-delays (or a separate ambiance, like an AMS) as either a slap sound or rhythmic (1/8, 1/4 etc...) delay while the reverb starts immediately to lengthen the original sound - which is a cool "effect."

Should any pre-delay be applied to the early reflections ? I'm wondering if having a short pre delay for the ER, like 20 to 40 ms, and a longer pre delay for the tail would be the way to approach it. There are just so many parameters with this IR-1, and I'm pretty reverb-tarded to begin with. I'll bet some of you reverb gurus could really put it into simple terms that will help me to understand. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for the feedback tzujan. |

I just spent about four hours trying different IR's on a snare track, adjusting various pre-delay configs for ER & Tail. Hated all of it ! As soon as I get the dry sound to thicken up and start sounding big, I'm starting to hear reverb funk that I hate. I hear songs that I like with gobs of reverb, but can't seem to dial it in myself. Trying to dial reverb in reminds me of when I was a kid first learning to sing harmony. Distracted, so focused on hitting my notes that I had to block out the other singers. No chance of copping a good blend. A couple of cool bandmates showed me the way on that. Can someone please show me the way on this ? I want the acousical support, and depth of reverb, but everything I dial in sounds cheezed out as soon as I get a little bit of depth. I confess my verb-tardedness sins, and plead with the verb elders for some help here. Please. I'll buy drinks on your next Central FL visit. |
