Thread Starter | New Sean Lennon
I just listened to some tracks from the new Sean Lennon album and I think it sounds amazing. I know its not released yet, but I figure its been circulating long enough for people to listen to it. I would love to know anything about the making of this album I can, especially how they got the amazing drum sounds (I'm sure a lot of it is Matt Chamberlain). Thanks, Josh |

Yeah, I'm very interested too! Has he done anything since "Into The Sun" (or what was it called..). I freaking love that record. |

i know at least a portion of it was recorded by tom biller at henson studio A, jon brion played on some of it but was not producing. i'm not sure as to who played what, but i did see some of the mic settups, drums were a mono OH Elam 251, the drums were placed in a small booth constructed of baffles with packing blankets placed ontop. i seem to remember a U47 infront of the kick drum as well, with a d12 inside. as far as pre's the room as 10 or so Neve 1064's and there were a handful of telefunken v72's about. as far as compression and such i'm sure the fairchild went a long way on this one. all of the tracks were routed through the 9000J into a studer a800 with i believe 499 @ +6NAB, but i can't remember that detail. there you go, i knew having a solid memory would pay off on this forum at some point.

Wow, thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. Do you remember how close in the 251 was to the drums? Thanks again. Josh |

Somehow I ran into the trailer for his CD/DVD on youtube and after watching it I was blown away and got the album illegally as soon as I could. I went out and bought it a few days after it's release for the DVD content. The album has got more play than any other album has of mine in a long time. I also took a lady friend up to San Francisco to see him live at the Great American Music Hall right in the front row. He sounded even better there than on the record. Solely because I'm a fan of big drums and the drum sounds on his album are pretty discreet so I loved hearing a big smacking snare and thumping kick. It made the music feel a lot 'bigger' I go to see at least 2 shows a month and I have to say he was the most entertaining performer I have ever seen. |

| Yeah that crap that every forward thinking positive revolutionist has been telling us all for years. Sean Lennon is a talent of his own. Would he be as successful without his father? Nope. But he wouldn't exist without him either. Regardless of his past I can really appreciate his good music. |

there has been a lot of great art created by people of questionable character. most of the artists that I love from the 60s and 70s were adulterers and bad spouses. but, whether or not John Lennon was a prick that screwed people out of money they deserve, it's a kind of petty thing to bring up in a thread about his son's new record. definitely OT and deserving of its own thread where you can share your insider knowledge with us. I haven't heard Sean's new record yet. but, I've heard great things about it. i've been planning a trip to the record store. unfortunately, I don't know whether everyone was properly compensated for the production, engineering, and performance. but, I'll probably give it a listen anyway. |

I caught his show in LA a couple of weeks ago. He has a nice, but somewhat weak voice. Best part was I got to "sneak" in my Cannon SLR digital and I got some great pics. Used to be I could sneak in my "bootlegger" digital recording system, but after 9-11 those days are over. Now it's about getting the camera in. I did get a media pass for the Motley Crue/Aerosmith concert and got great shots there about a month ago. Jim Williams Audio Upgrades |

After listening to the album a lot, I think ultimately the best part of the album is the production. I still think the album sounds great, especially the drums and strings.. and piano, and...but the songs are only ok (I think there are a few pretty good ones though), and his voice is definately weak, kind of like a bad Elliot Smith, although it definately works for a lot of his stuff.

John Lennon was dead before any of that royalty money would have come to Douglas. In fact, DF sold so well greatly because of his death. Rolyalties are receivable at least three months or more away from release time according to my own experience, often much more. Hell, the bookkeeping takes that long. Okay so you hate John Lennon - is that your point? I love him - hence my response! He was a hypocrite - aren't we all. You shouldn't buy into all the hype in the first place, and then maybe you wouldn't be so disappointed. Besides a song is just an expression of feeling at one point in time. If he wrote "All You Need is Love" and didn't always practice it, then he is merely being human. Like all of us. Like me. Like you. Alright, peace out. -Naren | |

Sqye, you're an absolute troll. Save your petty crap for a non-professional forum. This is (was) about Sean's record. So, have you heard Sean's record and do you have anything to say about it? |

there is nothing anonymous about my signature- that's my name. you don't have to hide behind a fake name to be a troll. trolls are just dark, dank creatures who make things stinky. given that this thread started with someone talking about how much they loved a record and were interested in knowing more about it, and then it grew into a place where someone who'd actually been in the room could add info, and then devolved into a bunch of he-said she-said crap that no one posting is party to once you began posting, i'd say you are a troll. |
