Multi purpose studio laptop!

Right now I am using mine

1) to type this / keep track of the forum
2) to avoid my task today (mixing) by goofing off online
3) recieving last minute audio files for the songs I am mixing from the artist who is recording them accross town
4) watching YouTube
5) As a pre mastering 'monitoring' rig - I have L2 and a Waves 10 band eq acrross the mix via spdif & and MBox to bring it up to the screaming volume of the clients favorite CD's
6) to watch a screensaver of photos of my wife and baby
7) To burn an MP3 of tonights rough to send the client
8) to check my email
9) to chat on Skype to friends
10) as an address book for phone numbers

I am sure some of you folks have more apps running than that at one time...

I'm just having a 'laptops are cool' moment..!

Agreed Laptops rock.

I have been taking my Mbox II w/ laptop to every gig (I'm a freelancer). It has been invaluable for all the reasons above. I am able to download/upload to ftps for next/previous sessions, make revisions for clients either on my laptop or on their computer via Timbuktu, and I have Waves diamond as well as the IRs for TL/Waves and I am constantly using them when clients systems don't have all the plug-ins, which has lead to more gigs (oh Brian will bring his laptop where he can do that cool car radio trick he did on the last session - I booked a huge gig at the beginning of the summer for that very reason!).

Indeed,

I use a 12" powerbook toaster for such things. The rec. comp. doesn't see the internet, I use a (under $20) 1 gb infolighter to transfer things to be sent outbound to the lapburner. Use as a remote device on occasion. Lovely little device.
