Dude... that's only the travel bag for the SM.
Does it say made in china on the mic?
I got my BETA58A from Guitar Center and it says Made in China on the pouch as well.
So it's allright!

ahhh one of mine's a fake! the extra crispy sound is the giveaway. if you put on some headphones and speak into all your 57s, they should sound pretty much the same.... this one is noticeably different. hotter output too. longer screw on the capsule connecting plate, the wires are green and yellow though as they should be... this one's really a convincing copy. the xlr connector even says "shure". it's got a transformer, with the proper glue potting. the black plastic grille piece is a different thickness if you look closely at the tines, compared to my real shures. the sticker font is a little funny looking, too, and the capsule assembly does not rotate freely like a real one, it is pretty firmly set (I wish the real ones were like this!). I could be imagining this, but it seems ever so slightly lighter in my hand. I'm pissed that I spent $70 on this thing...now what do I do with it? I wouldn't feel right selling it, I guess I'm stuck with a sizzly fake. maybe I can find a use for it. it kind of has that late 60s light and sweet/tame snare sound dialed in. not my favorite sound, but I guess that's cool to be able to get.

In over 40 years I have never seen a Shure mic with orange and blue wires. Shure dynamic microphones use yellow and green signal wires and a black ground. Note that I have not worked on the Beta series (don't like 'em much), so those may be different.

Perhaps the people at the Chinese knockoff factory are color-blind?

DO NOT ROTATE THE HEAD ON YOUR SM57! On older ones (approx. pre 1982) it's a sure way to kill the cartridge, and it's still not recommended. (the older had wires running from the inner cartridge to the back plate, which would break. Newer ones use little strips of fiberglass pc board, but it's still not foolproof, although it's much stronger. Interestingly the change came within a couple or so months after I demonstrated my technique for salvaging broken capsules with this problem to a couple of Shure reps who were visiting Don Wehr's Music City......

On newer ones rotating the head can cause the clip that holds the cap on to scrape against the two lead out wires from the voice coil, Although they are protected by a couple layers of plastic tape, it can eventually wear through, exposing the wires to breakage.

Really? You must not know about the big scandal a couple of years back when GC was having knockoff Octava mics made for them in China (they were sued and hit with a desist order. They also lost their Octava dealership)....... While I do on occasion buy from GC I for damn sure don't trust them!

I have a 57 I bought at GC about 8 years ago that has only 2 holes by the XLR end. If you look straight into the 3-pins, they are each numbered and it says "SHURE" engraved into the plastic jack below pin #3.

I have bought quite a few mics from GC and never got a fake to my knowledge. Not so with other people. I think it depends a lot on which GC you shop at - stores like the ones in major cities such as San Francisco and LA get the real stuff, others don't. Ay least that's my theory. Ipurchased several Octavas from them and all appear to be real, but as I said previously they lost their franchise and were sued for selling Chinese fakes........

I still don't trust them, although there are a few individual salesmen at the SF store that I do trust.....

FWIW, the bags and mics look exactly like the ones you are saying are fakes - and exactly like the ones posted by Stagefright13

If you have two fake mics, I'd say its more likely the other two, not the ones that resemble Stagefright13's. Despite the "Made in China" tags in the bags.

All else aside, the creators of the fakes (if that's what they are) have gone to a lot of trouble. I do not think they are going to get 'caught out' leaving a tag that isn't supposed to be there...

I am afraid your're mistaken too, the bag could be made in one place and the mic in another one as well!! the bag is not a electronic product.
I have a fake 58 with no sticks inside and the 57 ordered from a delar has the sticker made in chine inside but... the mic is original.
