1176's rule

Just bought an 1176! It's black, it's as old as me and it kicks ass..Man I was blown away upon inserting it on a vocal during mixing...I'd say there is a bit of a difference between the hardware and the software emulation (plug ins)!
ANd on room mics forget about

I bought it from a fellow gearslut! thanks man...I'm in love

happy happy joy joy

How about that... something hardware that sounds better than something software... I'll be damned.

Yeah, 1176s are my favorite. Much better than the plugins, of course. I have to say, tho, the UAD-1 1176 plugin does something to the midrange that I like that the hardware doesn't. But, yeah, I'll take the hardware any day.

How long till you go stereo, superburtm?

I bet it looks like an...1176?

Is a picture *really* necessary?

It just sets the 0dB point of the VU meter to a different level. IIRC (anybody correct me if I'm wrong), the +8 dB reference level was used a lot in radio broadcast, whereas +4 is more widespread in pro recording.

Yes, but the unit's amps and transformer(s) are still inserted.

I trust you did try the setting with all 4 (or just the 4 and 20) ratio buttons in.
And : no, the meter's not broken.

Rev. F. Picksail nicknamed it "Evelyn" as in "Evelyn-seventy six."

Glad to sell it to a local GS'er. Superburt's got a cool scene over there in Burbank, BTW (oh, crap, the 1176 had to move to BURBANK!) -- the live room can fit, like, a 12-piece band, no prob.

Superburt=super-nice, too (of course, most people SEEM super-nice when they're handing you a fat stack of $100 bills, but anyway...).

"Evelyn" stayed at our place for a short time....I loved her very much, she's so sweet.
I hated to see her go (she brought me to tears when she left) I'm happy she's doing well and found a loving home. Treat her well.

Yeah, she does get around.

I still have some sh*t from her that even penicillin can't cure.

So SuperBurt, when we need to get our fix, can we call you?

That particular unit is a gem!!!!

Congrats.

You guys kill me!

You would have pee'ed in your pants when my bud and I scored and flipped nine of them from the studio I once worked at back in 2001!

Five blacks and four silvers.

They all went to loving homes.
Like mine.

Good one. I didn't take those pics (they were emailed to me by Traxx, who sold me the unit), although I must admit they are damn sexy.

Yes and now he is going to need some of the penicillin that Picksail has. The good news is that he obviously still respects her in the morning. She is a party animal it appears.

Little gear slut!!!!!

Congrats on finding the world of Evelen!!!

Yeah, those pics were sent by email before I paid her pimp a hefty some of money so she could travel to L.A. -- where she spent more time hanging out with my friends than with ME! And then I lost her to a guy named...SUPER-burt...she's responsible for his light wallet, too...
