What's "moderate" level for monitor run-in?

I just picked up a pair of Dynaudio BM6 passives. The manual says to run them in by setting them up face to face out of phase and playing "MEDIUM LEVEL" music in mono for 12 hours. How would you define "medium level" for this purpose? Around 80 dB SPL, C-weighted sound OK?

Um, you won't measure 80dB SPL when they are facing each other and out of phase, untill you run a lot of power into them....

I'd run them at about 1-5W rms. Just make sure they are moving. The spider and the surround change in the first few hours of use.

Well of course I didn't measure the dB when they were already facing each other and out of phase! I measured it when they were in their normal position, and then left the monitor level there when I put them face to face.

Just out of curiosity, how would one measure this?

Use a "true RMS" DVM across the speaker terminals and divide that voltage squared by the speaker impedance.

...for ballpark numbers, lets use 8 ohms

V^2 / 8 = 2W

V^2 = 16

V = 4v RMS

...at 80dB SPL I doubt you were running even half a watt into them.
