Thread Starter | wav. file bit depth for another engineer
I've tracked some stuff that is to be sent off to another guy with a Protools rig for mixing. I've tracked at 24-bit with Sonar and am going to burn wav. files so the other fellow can load onto protools to mix. I think I've burned 16-bit wavs in the past, but shouldn't I be giving this guy 24-bit files instead of 16-bit? I would think so. . . Am I correct? Thanks |

I'd think so, yes.

Yes, 24 bit. (Please, for the sake of all us mix engineers, 24 bits is standard) I just got a disk about a month or so ago that was 16 bits. Mixing in 16bits is like driving down the road in a Yugo. I mean, you eventually, sorta, get to where you want to go, but damm it's rough...and you sure don't arrive in "style"... You know.

That's what I thought. . . seemed like common sense, but there's a lot I don't know. Sonar defaults to 16-bit when I create a wav. file. . . doesn't matter. . . Thanks again |
