| Lives for gear | Safe Sound P1 Hello... I´m considering this pre.. has anyone heard it and would like to comment on the quality of the pre, and limiter ? I heard where one guy said the pre could hold it´s own with the big boys like Neve, and the limiter was really great . Any opinions ? thanks ! |

| P1 I used one a while back. The Pre sounds good but the real value is the limiter. For the price it can't be beat. It's much more usefull than my Toft,Meek or other midpriced compressors. The only reson that I didn't buy it was that I am loaded with high end compressors and didn't need another.I may pick up one if I get my B room up and running. It's a pro sounding peice. |

| Yeah, use the search and you should be able to find plenty of opinions. To sum up what you'll find: people say the compressor is amazing and the pre is clean and usable. Once you find a post by "warhead," send him a PM with your questions. He's the #1 advocate of this piece. If you want to buy one, make sure to buy it from warhead's store, www.frontendaudio.com. They're great. Eric |

| You may find, in comparison with other pres, the SS P1 has a rather smooth top end. Some claim there is a slight dip around 6K. I have noticed this with mine (I bought 2) and I use it to my advantage. If I'm getting too much sibilance with a mic through a crispy high end pre, I run it through the SS P1 pre and the sibilance is gone, although the high end is still there. It's just smoothed out a bit. I use it mostly for the comp/limit function. The comp is super-transparent, with auto release, and sounds great on vocals and bass. You can really squash a signal, and there's no change in tone, unlike most compressors, which introduce a bunch of midrange 'smack' when you hit them hard. It's also a great bass di. The smoothed out top end helps to tame fret buzz.
