Why do you think its a fake? The pictures clearly show the serial number, so call or email Gibson and find out....

I've seen all kinds of stuff come out of the Custom Shop... this one's not a stretch to me.

I had a Celebrity Series Firebird and I loved it.

but I wouldn't buy a guitar from overseas no matter who the seller is. The sound of an electric guitar depends so much on the wood that it doesn't make sense to me to pay money for an instrument without hearing it.

A real good friend of mine won one of those, with no reserve, from Singapore. It was a fake. The auction ended with him winning it for $30.00 plus $300.00 for shipping. He hoped it was real....but nope.

He doesn't have the same MO as the guy who was selling Gibsons with the starting price of like $1.88 + $300 shipping, which were obviously fakes.

Still, I agree, I would never in a trillion years buy a guitar like that from overseas. Period.

For that matter, I wouldn't buy a guitar like that used online. if I wanted it that badly, and I was going to spend that much money, I'd take a flight out to see, feel, and hear it.

Why not buy one of the current Firebirds?

Hey, good news, I just looked and they are currently in production.
Have a gander:

$1,959.99 total. (ckick on view more photos to see the blue one that tickles his fancy).
It seems they aren't so rare afterall.

Here's the one big bro wants on EvilBay for $3,315.00

It would appear to me that your bro just saved $1,355.01 (before bargaining with the sales clerk at MF) and can at least return it if it doesn't make him do cartwheels.

Tell your brother I said, "you're welcome" and that I accept tips in my PayPal Tip Jar :D

First... that color is called Pelham Blue and was quite prevelent iun the early '60s.

Second... I wouldn't belive ANYTHING that came out of the mouth of anyone at GC!

I derive GREAT pleasure when we need to stop in at GC and buy something real quick.
My friend goes to the "Pro Audio" area (yeah, right!) and I pick up a guitar and plug it in.
Keep in mind that I have played guitar for AT LEAST forty years.... I know my way around the thing quite well.
The response I get from the salesmen that happen to venture near is always funny!

Good example: I was recently in the Hollywood GC and you would think that they knew their stuff. I had just been at the Dallas Guitar Show the weekend before and played a Fender "thin fin" Strat that I loved. Thin Fins are nitocelulose paint finished models that are fairly close to the '50s paint formulas... they sound VERY good. I didn't buy it because I didn't know that my friend had sold another guitar at his booth for me. A week later I had cash in my bank account that would allow me to buy the Fender.

NO ONE and let me repeat that NO ONE at the Hollywood GC had even heard of a Fender Thin Fin. Not even the guys in the "vintage" department that sell decent, vintage guitars at TREMENDOUSLY inflated prices knewe what a Thin Fin was.

In fact, I got the impression that I was percieved as a wannabe yokel because I'm fifty years old, don't look like a guitar player and have a southern accent. I felt like I was treated lke a tourist who wandered in off of the street! I have played guitar almost my entire life and owned "vinatge" guitars before these Hollywood "experts" were out of pre-school! If I could sell my collection of guitars at the prices they ask I'd be a happy and richer man!

Most GC people are making minimum wage at best and know VERY little about what they sell. I LOVE to actually venture into the "pro audio" area and inquire about the "vintage" mics. I own mics older than these kid's parents, but they can tell me stuff that I never knew.... and it's complete bullshit and mostly incorrect stuff that they have assumed or misinterpreted. It is more annoying than entertaining!

DON'T BUY ANYTHING OFF OF eBay THAT YOU CAN'T VERIFY TO BE 100% AS REPRESENTED BY THE SELLER!

I recently won a bid on a MCI JH24 24 track deck that was easy to pick up and appeared to be of a vintage that I want. Because the person that possesed the deck wasn't going to be back in town until after I had to travel, I wouldn't be able to personally check out the deck. Everything appeared fine and my emails and phone calls were answered promptly. Everything appeared "OK", but I still was not going to part with $2K before inspecting the deck! I've seen too many people burned by what appeared to be "good deals" on eBay. In fact, I'd say that 75% of what I have seen people buy is mis-represented in one degree or the other.

Wow, I don't know if I personally would say that......but......you have a point in "one some degree or the other".

I have had about 100 transactions on Ebay. There have been a few that didn't work out so well initially but ended up fine. I had about 4 bad deals and I guess I was just lucky that either the buyer was responsible (refund), PayPal saved the day (happened 2x), or the manufacturer was great and repaired a broken item (1 time.....and I was very lucky).

In all, I won't buy on Ebay unless PayPal or my credit card company is involved and can help resolve an issue. Ebay is useless in helping with conflicts but since PayPal or your credit card co. can get to the money there can be help.....but no guarantee.

I would't buy a guitar on ebay.
Something to think about: I once bought a mic and one of the diaphragms was not working.

Selling can be a hassle too.

It seems to me Craigslist and face to face cash transactions is where it's at now.
No fees and a chance to see/touch/try before you buy.
I will buy between reputable forums members as long as PP or CC is involved.

AC, it actually might not be made anymore - I don't see it on the Gibson website.
However, even if that's true, that doesn't mean that a bunch of places don't still have some around.

Let me know how your bro makes out.

yeah, I don't think its a fake, too many pix and the serial.
I had a custom one like that in the mid '90s. It was Peacock Green".
Thats an awesome looking guitar, but the banjo style machine heads blow.
You will allways be out of tune, ask my roadie about that one.
Good luck!

I can't count how many times I have almost bought an original Firebird at a guitar show.
I think that they look cool as hell, but when I play one it feels so awkward!
I was playing a beautiful, original year reverse Firebird III about five years ago and Eric Johnson was standing in front of me and said, "You need to buy that guitar. You make it sound good."
Not even THAT made me part with the cash!

The vintage ones are "sleeper" guitars.
Like the LP Jrs. and SGs they will creep up in price.
They have not taken off like LP Jrs. (which is rediculous!) but they will appreciate.
I just don't buy guitars to sell them.

I like the look of Firebirds.
Not so much the non-reverse ones.
Neither is very functional.

From the original eBay ad.....

Local Bidders - No self collection option is available unless item is more than $100 USD in value. Payment for local bidders is by Paypal or bank transfer. We strictly do not entertain testing, viewing or bargaining.

Real or fake, any seller that won't let you try (let alone SEE!) the thing before handing over the moolah, is dodgy in my book.
