Out of inputs- need a submixer

I have a D8B, which has 48 inputs and I have a huge synth/sampler rig and along with returning reverbs (PCM 91, TC3000, DP Pro) and compressors
(Manley Vari Mu, 2 Distressors, Amek 9098, Meek SC2, 2 Aphex Expressors), I am totally out of inputs and need a submixer. I would love at least an 8 or better yet a 16 channel or more rackmount line mixer of really high quality. Looked at the Speck and it does have a ton of inputs and it's expensive but I heard it's real good. An Ashley rep, just today, told me about an 8 ch stereo
(16 mono), 1 rack space line mixer that they make for under $500. He claims that the specs for it are off the charts. Sounds too cheap to be true. Has anyone used or have any knowledge of it? I know API and Amek both make 8 ch. (mono) line mixers for $2000. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any other pieces that are out there that I should know about.
Thanks for your responses.
Sincerely,
Robert Sands

I know you already mentioned it, but the Speck rocks, really, really sounds great.

I am currently using a Manley 16/2. Great piece of gear, but probably out of your price range. You would be lucky if you found one used for under $ 6K. You could find a used SPECK for around $ 1.5K, a valid alternative, I think. Do you need faders?

No, I don't really need faders. Just need inputs to bring in several synths. I think the Speck is probably going to be the ticket. I get a little scared buying used like on ebay because you don't get to check the thing out before buying it. One was just on there actually and the bid that I saw it at was $899. Should have tried for that one, I guess. I just posted here hoping that there was a mixer that I wasn't aware of that I could buy new for somewhere under say $2000.
