Mapex Drums

Hi all!

My business partner (who's a drummer) just got an endorsement from Mapex, so it looks like our studio will be getting more drums.

I'm not familiar with Mapex at all...has anyone here used any on a regular basis? What can I expect? What are the best for studio use?

I don't know how these endorsements work though, so I don't know if we'll have any say in picking drums.

Thanks for your help!

Matt

i have a mapex saturn kit as my in house kit and i love it! theyre made from walnut and maple and just sound so punchy... ive used an orion too which was ace but not that much more impresive than the saturn.

their snares are amazing too, i have one of the rarer old prescious metal phosphour bronze snares that is outrageous"""!!!

good luck !!

well...i wouldn't call myself a drummer, but i play from time to time. i bought a mapex kit some years ago--the cheapest available at the store--and it's served me very well. they do make fancy kits for pros and, judging by the quality of their cheap kits, i'd imagine they'd be quite nice.

EDIT: by the way, mine's a venus. very compact, also came with all the hardware. i don't think mapex makes them any more.

A dummer I play with frequently has an endoresment deal from Mapex. They sound great on our jazz gigs. I haven't heard them yet ni a studio. I should buy a small kit for the studio from them, via him, since they're already so reasonably priced.

They are good drums for cheap drums. I play a mapex snare with my gretsch kit and I have no complaints.

I just got a Saturn Pro Kit an its Awesome, I bought it because one of my session drumers have one and its very easy for me to get an amazing sound and punch out of it, so I've decided to buy a new one, curiously it arrived today and WWWOOOOWWW sounds great, I usually rent a yamaha kit or a premier, some times a DW but, I think Mapex is making a good job an they gonna be recognised very soon.

Best regards.

im with you on that one, mapex dont get their dues in my opinion... i used to work in retail and found the mapex to be totally underated, people would always talk about dw, tama etc and end up getting a dw pacifica or something which is like buying a squier cos it's linked to fender when you can get something 10 times better for the same price.....

any way, longer it satys a secret is better for me, i plan to get a 22" kick and 18" tom to add to my mapex collection

Mapex has a full line of drums, from entry level to pro. Their higher end maple and birch drums are beautiful and rival DW, Tama & Yamaha, IMO. They sound great and they have very solid hardware.

You are in a lucky situation. I would love to have a Mapex kit for the studio, although I own far too many drums already. It'd be hard to choose between maple & birch, but I'd probably go with 10-12-14-16-22 for flexibility. They make a nice metal snare as well as the matching wood ones that come with kits.
