Pre compression effects sends with D2B

Was showing another Gearslutz member my D2B setup. He wanted to know if there was any way to use this setup and send to an effects unit post-compression if you are using outboard compressors directly to the D2B. There seems little point in the D2B is you are going to bring the outboard compressor back into the PT session.

Thought this was a point worth exploring because you can hear the outboard reverb "blossoming" every time the vocal is compressed.

Why not?

I do this all the time. That way if you have to do a recall you can just call up the session with the tracks already effected. Normally I monitor the return track rec engaged and send the output straight to the D2BLT for monitoring. When its where I want it i track it.

For effects i do the same thing(while shifting the tracks of course). Return the effects with the track rec engaged and monitor till I hear something i like, than track that.

Also I have everything wired to a patchbay so you can patch anywhere at anytime(even post compression if need be). There are also mult points for complicated bussing.

So Thrill,
So you don't worry about the extra DA and AD conversion when you take something out of PT and then back in? What converters are you using? I'm thinking that this method might be cool for some stuff that I'm gonna mix. I want to use some analog comps, EQ's, etc. but I'm worried that the extra conversion might be too much. I would just be using the converters in a 192.

Personally I think the extra conversion thing is overated.

You learn to mix on whatever is before you. I've mixed this way for years(even when mixing on the SSL9000J).

I also own a ton of outboard and I wouldn't risk not using it just to stay in the box. I am used to the sound of my gear so it works for me.

Converters? (2) 192 interfaces and a Apogee AD16/DA16. I am interested in getting a Prism AD8 sometime next year.

Thrill,

While I can see the advantages for recall of returning the outboard gear, you now have to account for latency and there is the extra A/D/A. What are the other people using the D2B doing about reverb sends pre-compression. I've been ignoring it, but once it was pointed out, I could here the reverb level not following the compression.
