noisy inputs....please help!!!

i am running audio out of the assignable outs of an mpc 2500 and a motif es 7 directly into a protools 96i/o. i am experiencing a fuzzy filmy sound when i record. i was using reason exclusively so i had become accustomed to the pristine sound quality of all digital tracking, but now i am relentlessly searching for the source of the noise in my analog setup! i have tried ground lifting both the 96 and the mp to no avail. i have tried using balanced and unbalanced cables directly into the interface and also thru a patch bay. i have tried disconnecting all midi from the computer. the sound per channel is not that offensive, but the cummulative effect of the noise over a series of tracks is. i can record enable 8 tracks from my 96 and let the cords hang free without noise, as i plug them in to the inputs of my keybaord or drum machine the noise starts to build up. also, everything except my g5 is running thru a power conditioner. have i become spoiled, or do i really have a problem? i will post a short clip of the channel noise if someone can pm me how.
