good idea/bad idea??

here we have a snake...with returns...

it wouldn't be very practical for me to run a speaker cable from the control room to the live room....would it be a bad idea to run the output of a guitar head into the snake, then from the snake into the cabinet??

or should i just run the guitar into the snake, then from the snake into the head, in the live room...

i'd rather have it be near me...for adjusting, obviously

Both ways have problems.

Is there a way to use a pre-amp and put the amp in the room?

The output of a guitar is very sesnsitive to cable capacitance, inductance, and resistance - a long run could significantly change the sound. The speaker output is sensitive to resistance - and snakes typically don't have low resistance.

And you don't want to run spkr level thru shielded cable, let alone small guage wire

Why not just push a long speaker cable through the same conduit?

This is what I did- so I can have the heads in my control room and the cabs in the live room.

You want HEAVY duty cable for the head to cab connection.. this isnt usually provided in XLR snakes...
