Waves SSl Versus UAD Neve:Samples included! I did a test between Waves SSl and UAD Neve 1073 eqs. Stereo guitar, similar eqs. I didn't use very much eq becuase the tracks didn't need it. To me they both sound excelent, maybe the UAD has an edge on the warmer side. You decide. Seagull on the left, Taylor on the right. Rode NT1, DBX 160 VU, Event emp 1 preamp. Track 1: No EQ Track 2: SSL Waves Track 3: UAD 1073

SSL: Increased high mid, sharper, a little more open. Neve: Increased low mid, darker, smoother (even). Both sounded fine to my ears. I'd use the Neve plug on this particular track though if it were me. I like how it softened the accoustic.

I agree with the description but not completely with the choice. The ac guitars alone, yeah the Neve sounds fuller and rounder. But if you add a bass guitar in there and/or other instruments/voice, I bet the SSL version would cut much better in a mix. So in the case of a full song, I would probably pick the SSL. YMMV

I think the original clip sounded the best...the other tracks sounded to me like the plug ins chocked some of the high end, making the overtones a bit shrill... I would imagine there will be an imminent danger of muddyness on the UAD and Waves track as soon as you start to stack up other instruments.. Nice guitar though !

kewl, thanks for taking the time to listen. I do like the No EQ one too for the mix. When I get time, I'll try to post something with more tracks. Matt

I found the unprocessed track to be muddy, lacking. As far as color build up, you could be right, but I like texture and lots of it. Definately a subjective type deal.

I really liked the fullness of the UAD although, the SSL was damn good too! What frequencies are you mainly cutting/boosting and was it exactly the same on each SSL/UAD?
