Club Speakers for Studio

What would be a good set of speakers to use in my studio to check my mixes for club play? IM not looking for the top of the line speaker but ones good enough to feel safe when it goes to the club. All my work is designed for club play. I have krk v4s and a sub right now. My mixes are translating well but id like to get that real club feel in my room to know im exactly where i wanna be. Maybe I dont need them at all? any advice or ideas?

Bryan
Thank You

If you have room, I'd get something big... PA speakers, basically.. when you want to crank something for the artist for "effect" or really see how it pushes air.

Otherwise, the burn CD-take it to the car method helps.

For that I use a pair of Mackie SRM-450.
Also nice for the occasional bbq and cd presentation party
As Astromr said you need a room big enough. otherwise comparing it to a clubsound doesn't work.
And these fit in the backseat of a car. which is a good thing.

Jbl or Urei - turbosound...

If you are thinking of soffit mounted monitors that you see in a bigger studio- maybe they look like PA speakers but the are very expensive and custom designed.

It also depends on how much $ you have to spend. Truly, most clubs with large rooms and high ceilings may sound quite different than your space.

Ditto on JBL... many clubs use them. But using 15" speakers in a 20x20 room might not go over very well.

Also, you'd have to turn them up really lound and be able to stand way back. Then of course... human bodies do a lot for sound dampening, and an empty club sounds a lot different than a full one.

Also.. much agreed with soffit mounted speakers.. usually that's your best bet to see what the mixes sound like on big speakers w/ big volume... but this way they are more suited to your room. A lot of studios that dont have a large budget use JBL's for these.

good points.
even a lot of djs do not know the difference between an empty and a full club, and their set sounds harsh often.
the solution is to check with reference tracks. stuff that you know works. And match the PA in the studio to that. soffit mounting is a good option. But not available for everybody.

its very difficult to get club levels with studio monitor quality...tho we have done it with some careful electonics and amplifier choice
Our best results were with the Martin W3T/WS2A...4 way active...Bryston on the top..BGW on the bottom...@$$24K
tho for twice the price...we delivered a DynAudio M4Plus to Jamacia...XTA428 crossover..LabGruppen FP3400x3 FP2400x1 AND a Genelec 7073 sub !! thats 12 12'' woofers
