simple, quality recorder for songwriting?

Hi,
I'm wonder if any fellow slutz have thoughts and experience with a simple recording device for recording ideas quickly that can be played back and heard instantly and then later dumped into a G5? I don't know about spending $400 on the Eiderol or even on a MiniDisc recorder. I've been tempted to just go get a cassette player for easy use.

Thanks

Stay away from cassettes. Try a compact flash based recorder like the
Marantz 660, or the Edirol. To get it into your computer, just get a flash
card reader, insert the flash card, and procede like any other drive.

How about the new generation Ipods? Don't they record in good quality now? I tried
using the Linux hack on my 3g IPOD but it really is more of a pain.
