NS10 Tweeters -- Where to get replacements?

Where are you guys (and girls) getting replacement drivers for your NS10's?

That statements rings all too true for me. The blown tweeters are being replaced in speakers that I just got from ebay. The previous owner didn't realize that the tweeters were blown -- he heard that NS10's sounded shitty and, when he tested them, they played music and sounded really bad (i.e., no tweeters) so he figured that all was well. I'm in the process of working out how to make the deal right between us. At least he is working with me on correcting the problem. Other people that I have had the pleasure of working with on ebay wouldn't have worked with me.

By the way, while I'm on the subject, I'm thinking about putting fuses in the NS10's to prevent future blown speakers. I know that this changes the sound a bit, but I won't know the difference since I haven't heard the speakers yet. Looking around, I found this quote from Fletcher from rec.audio.pro in July 2000:

The best way is to "go in" after the crossover, on the positive lead to
each driver. Use a .75a 'fast blow' for the tweeter, and a 1.5a 'fast
blow' for the bloofer. I usually mount the fuse holders on the face of
the speaker [usually over the 'Yomama' label], but many mount them
around back. I mount them on the front because they're easier to get to
to change, and it's fun to watch the little 'blue flash' when they blow.

When you 'pierce' the cabinets, silicon caulk around the holes for the
wires to maintain the "integrity" of the cabinet. Radio Shack has 'dual
fuse holders' that are perfect for this job...I usually mount the holder
with a single 'drywall' screw in the middle of the holder, then drill
small holes to feed the wires to each end of the fuse mount...solder the
wires to the fuse holders, silicone caulk around the wires from the
inside of the cabinet. If you do it right, it'll probably take you
about an hour...if you rush, chances are pretty good you'll **** it up.

Good luck.

"this is not a problem"

Is this what you guys are doing? Fletcher, is this still your setup?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Mike

yeah, it's a tough call on tweeters off'f ebay.

i got my replacements there, but i was meticulously careful.

but i've only blown tweeters at a ridiculous level. i'm glad woofer didn't suffer any damage.

no fuses on my NS10s. as long as you don't push that hard, you'll do fine. you won't wanna listen to these at such a loud volume anyway.

many mixes were done at mosquito level.

if you have clients wanting "loud" cuz they can't hear bass... well, switch to biggies.

having a good amp helps also.

Do you need both? We have one new- in -box, pm me if your interested.

If you need both, speakerrepair on ebay has sets. They are down the freeway from us, and they are real trustworthy. They have been around for years.

Thanks guys. Maybe I will skip the fuses...I usually mix fairly quiet. If I'm going to turn it up to sit back and listen or listen from the other room while throwing darts (that is my version of the behind the door trick), the NS10's probably won't be my speaker of choice anyway. Yeah, I need both of them. I may go with speaker repair if I don't find a better deal. Thanks for the recommendation. I am getting pretty frustraited with ebay sellers who don't come with recommendations.

Not yet. They're on summer vacation until late August (really).

*LMAO*...I can really visualize the previous owner sitting in front of the tweeterless NS10's for the first time, scratching his temple while thinking to himself; "So this is what all the hype is about eh?...Oh well...if that's what they want...."
