Change my TR-8 for B&W 601-602??

Hi all

I was watching a good reviews about the B&W monitors, i'm thinking to change my Event TR-8. Is the 601 or 602 series B&W a good choice to replace the TR-8??

I can't spend more than $1000 used for a used pair looking for something nice for mixing and mastering

Someone was offering me a pair of M-audio DSM3 3 way for $650 and I just let them gone

Thanks Slutz!

Keep your eyes peeled on audiogon.com. I scored some pmc monitors for about $1200. Know what you're waiting for and pounce on it when it comes up. There are lots of fantastic hifi speakers that are suitable for studio use and there are certainly deals to be had.

if you do go down the path of passive monitors like the matrix etc (which are hi end) then you will also need to budget in a great transparent power amp to run them with.

bryston, hafler, classe etc. all really good prices as well.

i use the matrix 805 (with alignment filter) through a hafler. it reveals a LOT of detail and would be the best setup i've heard. it also reveals a room not treated properly if that's your case. also reveals poor mic placement, and tracking room acoustics. but when you get it right everything sounds so good.

obviously, you will need to get onto treatment as well. once the studio went from krk7000b to the matrix i found myself redoing the treatment in the trakcing room followed by the control room.

i thought the krk's sounded pretty good, and still do, but the 805 are much better. clearer top end (less smeared), tighter bottom end and a flatter response all round.

Yes that's important too. What model of hafler are you using for your pair of 805?
So an alignment filter is recommended for this right?

the hafler is the p4000.

the alignment filter is specifically made for the matrix 805 speakers. the matrix xpeakers need the filter to achieve the 6th order blah blah......

it works so that's all that matters to me. :-)

I started thinking about hi fi speakers in recording after I noticed b&w's in photos of Electrical Audio. Good luck with your hunt. I really do think this is the best way to get the most for your money. Audiophile guys are always upgrading their stuff. I can't afford to be a guy like that, but I can totally take their "trash" off their hands.

Before I bought any speaker pro or audiophile I would listen first, it's only better if it works for you!
I like The 800 series of B&W would love to find a pair of 808s ! But if you are any good with building a pair of boxes building a pair of passive ATC 50s or some Nelson Reed esq (ATC mid dual Volt 8in LF )boxes !
Also look for the 3 way Proacs with Atc mid and LF driver !

Amp wise
Bryston, Adcom, Nakamachi PA5 & PA7 as well as Hypex all show more detail then Hafler here!

I know that's the best but I don't have that option.

Thanks for the amps guide

my understanding is that 100w per channel is the minimum you require for a studio situation.

I always prefer lots of headroom , so I would look for 555, and not a Series 2!
