| Lives for gear | When to clean diaphragm ive been using a u87 for almost 3 years now. I run a public studio about 8 hours a day. Even though i use a pop filter thats still alot spit flyin around. Especially since its mostly rap. when do you have the diaphragm cleaned? and what does it sound like when it needs to be cleaned? bryan thanks |

| One with big hooves | The diaphragm ONLY needs to be cleaned if the mic stops working. It's thinner then a human hair...doesn't take much to damage it & it's NOT a process you can do yourself. But yeah...if the mic starts cutting out for long periods of time and develops some kind of really insane HF roll-off, then it might be time for a capsule cleaning or some other service. Usually that takes 10-20 years to develop... Until then...record. Make music. Be happy.
