Thread Starter | Pres that are 6 in one, half dozen in the other...
It is clear that in comparing mic pres, many comparisons are 6 in one, half dozen in the other (i.e. pretty much the same in the scope of the big picture). Two comparisons I'm thinking of that seem to fall into this category: Great River MP-2NV / Aurora Audio GTQ2 (aside from the inclusion of a limited EQ section on the GTQ2, the pre section of these are pretty much in the same vein) Chandler LTD-1 / Brent Averill 1084 (sound of the pres are in the same vein and both have a nice sounding and flexible EQ section) Please chime in if you think this is a good summation or if you think there are any glaring differences that make the 6 in one, half dozen in the other generalization incorrect in your view. |

hummm? Can you re-explain what you mean? I think I understand...but I just wanna make sure before I go running off at the "fingers" If you looking for audio clips of the GTQ2: sexy chocolate!! |

I think ideally you want to have a broadish pallette of different-sounding pres to call on when you choose. If you were stocking a spice drawer you wouldn't want it filled with just 8 varieties of turmeric... |

Ok, I'm replacing my current preamp. I am ordering a couple pres to demo. I would prefer to demo 2 pres instead of the going through what it would take to demo 4 preamps. My guess is I would be better off demoing the GR or GTQ2 against the LTD-1 or BA 1084 instead of GR against GTQ2 or LTD-1 against BA1084 because they are so close in what they do.
