Speakers that sound closest to laptop speakers?

I want to buy something really small thatll sound pretty similar to my powerbook speakers.. I find my stuff sounds pretty good everywhere but theres always this thin sound I hear on smaller speakers. Like a big gap in the low mids, that bigger records dont have..

Just something to check to make sure the mix will transfer better over small speakers.

I'd mix with my laptop there but it would just get in the way..

If you gotta tv, use the internal speakers in that. You can play cd's through a playstation or DVD player.

I do it, works great. We gotta 24" tv with small internal speakers. Make sure any pseudo surround processing crap is turned off on the tv.

Here's my current method:

1) Take your marvelous mix and convert it to an mp3 of the lowest bit rate

2) Upload the mp3 into your Myspace player (everybody has one now, right?), which is basically a sonic decimator anyway.

3) Now play the song from the player with the output being generated from your computer's horrific mono speaker (Mac Mini is great for this)

How does it translate now?

Yeah I know. Every record I do goes immediately on myspace.

Im listening to music more and more on a laptop and trying to figure out why some stuff translates so much better.. somehow the big name mix guys get their mixes sounding way better on smaller systems then the bigger name indy guys do, even though on larger systems the differences arent as huge..

Just go to your local electrical store and purchase the cheapest nastiest radio/alarm clock you can find , open it up and reconnect the speaker to an external amp driven from your console.

I like to use a tiny ghettoblaster for the same reasons.

Make sure you send it a summed mono feed , plus it will tell the time to!

I put a knackered old car speaker in a box I found. Kinda like a lo-fi auratone. I built that about 12 years ago, and use it all the time!
I used to check mixes off cassette on my crappy fiat uno car stereo. if it sounded any good there, it would sound good anywhere!! My car stereo is a bit too 'good' for that these days!
