Let Love Rule - Do tell!!

Okay, I did a search, first of all.

Anybody work on this album? Wanna tell us how it sounds so f'n good?!

I know from one or more of Fletcher's posts already that there was nothing "neeee(ee)vy" about it...

'quipment? Techniques? Stories?

Let's have it!

I hate to say this, cuz it doesn't really answer your question, but performance is HUGE on that song. It's a pretty simple song, arrangement etc, but the performances are so energetic and exciting.

Donno any technical stuff though.

Okay, didn't Lenny himself play a lot or most of the instruments?

Can we get past the "it's the player, not the gear" answer that I've posted about in The Moan Zone ("It's the player, not the gear") and get down to brass tacks?

That whole album is so raw and has more emotion than any of his other albums... easily his best work IMHO, even if the production isn't as clean and polished. I believe, if I remember correctly, he played pretty much everything on it except for horns and some of keys. Also vaguely remember from interviews long ago that one of the reasons his ex-wife, Lisa Bonet, left was because he was "always out in his studio"... so a large portion of it may be home grown.

Waterfront at the time had a trident a-range and truck loads of classic studio outboard.

ALL tape machines, Otari mtr90 or 3M m56/79 2" 16 track decks.

Lenny is a studio ***** of epic proportions, he owns the original EMI Tube console that was used to record Sgt Peppers.

Waterfront had/has a Helios console now.

I kinda got all this info from scouring the net and looking at pics from his CD sleeves. the one from 'Are you gonna go my way' is particularly interesting as there are many studio pics.

I loved all Lenny's albums upto circus which was kinda So So.. but after that i lost interest.

Out of Curiosity has he produced many other 'artistes'?

Here's the "Let Love Rule" album credits as posted on AllMusic....

BTW, Karl Denson is a monster of a sax player. I've seen him with Lenny a few times and on his own with Karl Denson's Tiny Universe a couple other times. Great stuff.

And here's a nice story about Hirsch's choices / working with Lenny in a 2004 Mix issue (though this refers to one of his latter-day, less sonically awesome sounding records IMO):

That should get us rolling...

He produced Justify My Love by Madonna. Don't know of any others off the top of my head.

Let Love Rule is one of those rare albums where I never feel the need to skip forward.

by "produce" do you mean "slept with Madonna and then produced her song?" :P
