To much AC in your control room!!

Hey...this might sound extremely..crazy.
Butha i think it might not be wise to put your AC so high in the control room, since you need to warm up some preamps....
With a strong AC your tubes might not be able to warm up for those nice recordings you'll about to record!!
Anyone?...cause i do noticed that a strong AC in a control room makes your preamp sounding cold too!!

Anyone?

I always turn up the AC when I have a female client coming over. But I'm an old man, and I gotta get my kicks somehow.

If you're control gets too cold it means you don't have enough gear. Buy more !!!!

A more serious problem is putting too large of a cooling unit in a space, BTU-wise.

There has been a lot about mold problems, and various fraudulent insurance claims on mold damage, but the root of the problem is an AC unit that's too large. And it can be a real problem.

If the unit is too large and doesn't run enough, it doesn't pull enough moisture out of the air, but since it's so powerful it can cool the moist air quickly thus causing mold.

I'd give for too much A.C. in here...

I had the guy in three times for the new room - I kept telling him "Look dude, this sh*t runs hot - This isn't a stereo system" and he's like "Yeah, no problem - We already put the additional return and two extra vents in..."

And I have a fan blowing air in from the foyer...

Now, I'm going to put an "inside the duct" fan in the main return and see if that doesn't help some. I think the AC is powerful enough *if it's running all the time* but if it's cold in here, you can bet the rest of the building is iced over.

So true. This is called short cycling and it can cause all kind of problems with your room, gear and the HVAC unit as well.

Do the math on how much BTU's / wattage your gear will produce, add in the average of the amount of people that will be in the room at a given time then figure out the correct size for your AC unit. Too small and it will never get cool, too big and it will short cycle and cause issues.

Anyway, the original thread sounds suspiciously like a troll to me.. but what do I know.

I had an HVAC guy that traded me work on my studio's HVAC system for me recording his music. It was good deal, too!

I had four AC units on the roof.
Two for the offices, one for the studio and one for the control room.

In Texas proper AC is a must!

I once had a studio in a converted frame house.
Once we added a big console and lots of gear what was once a KITCHEN got hot as a MOFO!

It was rarely ever too cold!
It's never too cold for the gear!
It is always warm inside racks of gear.

It's great to see that at least one person has their priorities straight. Because let’s be honest we don’t really care about how hot the gear gets, we are really only concerned with what’s going with the women in the room.

AC does produce mucho moisture. I have a dehumidifer also for extra wet dayz
Today has been brutal in Boston. My 3 gallon bucket on my dehumidifer is already half full........

Moisture can destroy gear

I know a guy that works in the freezer department of a food store and I always tell him "Gee it must be a rough job on a hot day with all the summer attired females walking through the freezer department.

Actually, it works the other way. AC removes moisture from the air. In fact, it has to remove the moisture before the cooling can begin (according to my AC guy). Why do you think they have to install a condensation drain?

From a quick Google search:

Refrigeration air conditioning equipment usually reduces the humidity of the air processed by the system. The relatively cold (below the dewpoint) evaporator coil condenses water vapor from the processed air, (much like an ice cold drink will condense water on the outside of a glass), sending the water to a drain and removing water vapor from the cooled space and lowering the relative humidity.

Cheers,

Don

Is too much AC possible?

I LOVE AC..

Perfect session for me is when the band are on the back couch in sweaters with their teeth chattering!
